How to prevent an "Accident" OK...since there seem to be alot of 'accidents' happening lately, let me give you 3 easy ways to prevent them. 1) If your female/male is not of a quality or you have no desire to breed them, have them spayed or neutered. Geez...even Bob Barker could tell you this! 2) Take female in heat and put her in room A, take horny male and put him in room B. Shut the doors and LEAVE THEM IN THERE. Yes they will whine. Yes they will drive you nuts. Get earplugs, get over it...you asked for this, deal with it. If you don't want to breed them EVER, and you don't want to hear them whine, have em fixed. End of discussion. 3) If you don't want to have them altered and you don't want to deal with it, give them to someone who does, you ain't ready for a dog. Sorry to be blunt, sorry to be rude, but this 'I left for 5 minutes and when I got back, my 3 pound female in heat got out and was stuck with my male' crap is getting more than slightly ridiculous. Yes, they will chew through steel if they can to get to each other. That is what horny males and bitches in heat do. I don't want to say EVERY single accident could have been prevented, but c'mon people, this is not a difficult concept and it sickens me to think there are so many who can be so easily outsmarted by their DOG!!! If you are sitting there wondering, "oh my gosh, is she talking about me? Did I do this?" Save yourself the trouble of asking, I probably am. *Disclaimer, I in no way claim to be perfect or without fault, but you have to admit, this is getting a little to frequent for me.* OK, I'm done. |

Plain and simple! 'Spay or she will pay!' We need bumper sticker that says that!! |
We had a real accident.. We had our apt set for our first rotty to be spayed, they were out almost 2 months... during this time she went into heat (about 6mo old) since she was in heat and we have seen a stray dog now and again, we knew not to take any chances... so we wouldn't let her be outside on her leash, she had to only go outside in her chain link kennel that also had a top on it, and we always latched the gate. We thought all was well, never saw a dog around, she was never "available" either to any dogs. Go to the apt, and the vet calls... says that our dog was pregnant, he noticed it when he did her surgery. He finished the surgery, because he knew we would never breed her since she was in for a spay surgery. She was beautiful, pedigree full of champs including her dad. I was in shock, how did it happen? she was never lose outside, only in her kennel, which was chain link fence with a top on it.... Well, according to the vet, our dog got pregnant THROUGH the chain link fence... That was a complete accident. But the point of my long winded post is this.... Yes accidents can happen, BUT WHY in the world are these little ones left whole when there are also males left whole in the home??? Also, why are not these little ones spayed right after the "accident"? Funny how many people posting about their "accidents" (used lightly here) seem to dance around the big question... were they spayed when they had their c-section? There is NO REASON why any of these accidents are carried to term.... I doubt many of these accidents are true accidents.... but it works doesn't it? they claim they had an accident, the forum supports them, forum members then buy their pups... 6-9 months later another "accident" and here we go round the mullberry bush.... I may sound harsh, rude or whatever- but there is no excuse for many of these accidents.... honestly I should of never left my in heat female alone in her kennel to do her potty business... I had no idea she could get pregnant through a fence... but I did the right thing (well the vet did) and spade her. Yes it did end the puppies life, but my rotty was way too young, and we knew nothing about breeding rotties or dogs at that point, our house was too small to have a litter of rotties, and well we have no idea who the "dad" was... the breeder I got my rotty from, worked very hard to get his reputation, and great line... I wasn't going to chance ruining it. I do believe accidents happen, but I don't believe it is an accident when you have a female and male, who neither are fixed having any sort of acess to eachother. |
Oh yeah... Here here!! Nicely said, everyone! :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: |
