Any ideas on how to get yorkie pup to quit barking at kitties ? So since my older kitty Lucy has taught Gizmo to try to get her, and bark at her, he's also learned to bark at our other 2 cats. They however don't appreciate like Lucy does lol. They run scared when he barks at them, and are only coming downstairs to eat and go potty. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get Gizmo to understand that they don't like it, and they would prefer he stops this :-) kitty Lucy has taught him hoe to do this during playtime, and I have no idea on how to get him to stop now. He does not chase them or anything, he just barks :-) Thanks in advance for any ideas :-) they are very much appreciated. |
Oh my I have no idea. My girls would go after my cat and they wouldn't stop until she gave them a good slap. Lol. Then they would leave her alone! Haha. Maybe someone has experience with the best way to handle this. |
We have several cats that we've had for quite a long time. Now we have dogs and most of the time our yorkie pays no attention to them. However Biscuit our jack russel mix, and one of our shih tzus are always bothering them. It's very hard to break the habit once they start. We yell at them constantly and sometimes resort to slapping them but it doesn't help. I guess it's in their blood. At least your yorkie doesn't chase them. We just have this fear that the cat will scratch their eyes out. I know it's happened to a lot of dogs. |
I have a cat tree so the cats can get up and away from the dogs.... weird though as 2 of my cats are bigger than all my Yorkies! |
Galen was barking at mine. Well one of them got tired of the barking and bopped him on the head. Just paw not claws. But now he does not bark at them mostly lol. The other day he was barking at one of them. He would bark and then go behind my DBF like he is using him for protection. I could not stop laughing. . . Well my cats are 3-4 times larger then him. Lmao |
Yea lol, my one cat Lucy has become his buddy, and they play wap the mole, where Gizmo hops around and barks and growls, and she tries to bop him in the head with the pad of her paw. Lucy is actually the one to teach him her kind of play :-) she likes Gizmo I think because she's older and has figured out she can play with him, without having to run anywhere, where as my other 2 cats like to chase Lucy and tackle her because she's not as fast as them. I think that's why Lucy has chosen to adopt the puppy instead, unfortunately she also taught Gizmo how to bark at all cats now :-) The other 2 were also rescued feral kittens I rescued, and those 2 both weigh over 20lbs each :-( they get scared and run when Gizmo gets excited and runs at them. I think Gizmo thinks they will play with him like Lucy does lol. We have been ignoring when he plays with Lucy and barks, as its part go their game. I'm hoping by the time I let Gizmo have free reign in the house, he will get bored of barking at them, as he gets no reaction from us. I have 2 cat trees, but the other 2 cats chose to just run upstairs because they know I don't allow Gizmo up there yet. I'm just hoping that he will stop before he's allowed up there :-) I'm afraid my other 2 kitties will beat him up, because he totally trusts Lucy and knows she won't hurt him, and he might think of them the same. It is pretty funny with my kitty Lucy, as she used to sleep all day long, but now as soon as she hears we are Having a play session or training session downstairs, she hurries down to try and get his attention haha. It was really cute this morning, Lucy was actually licking Gizmos head while he just sat there being a good boy xoxo |
My big boy Saber runs from Galen too. But he will run around the living room a bit. Like he is playing with him. And Willow is his girlfriend. ;) He just loves her. lol even snipped still loves on her. All four though can get away from him so there is not problem. As long as they have an escape there should not be a problem. Also if Lucy adopted him like a baby she might protect him like one too. |
