Hi guys!
So I wanted to ask some of you guys what you think about kennel cough at daycare. I take my dogs to this very fancy day care in Hollywood and suddenly every single dog had kennel cough. I brought my dogs 2 times after seeing that dogs had kennel and then I took them out. Some people told me it was not a problem some others told me it was a serious problem. Luckily none of my babies got the kennel cough but I've been noticing more sick dogs at day care and it amazes me how no one does nothing about it.

I'm not taking my dogs back until they fix that problem because I don't want any of my little guys to get sick.

Have you guys had any previous experience like this? Something worse something similar?

Magnus and Zoey had KC mid July. Since they haven't been interacting with any other dogs the previous month or so, the only place they could have gotten it from was the daycare.

Have you contacted the daycare about your concerns? If not, then I'd like to recommend you do. Maybe even contact your vet to see if s/he's seen any dogs with KC and if they've been to the same daycare as your pups.

As much as it sucked that M/Z got sick, I felt my daycare handled things very well. They were constantly in contact with me and answered any questions I had. They also asked that I'd get a doctor's note for clean bill of health. Which I had no problem with of course.

I've never had experience with kennel cough regarding my dogs but I know while living in Memphis one of the shelters was overrun with it. It is highly contagious especially with dogs being in close quarters. I dont think I would take my dogs back there until they had a total in house cleaning(the virus can still live on a surface for a period of time). I would ask them how often do they clean and with what?

I came across a lady at petco .we were talkin about daycare and she told me about kennel cough and that her dog caught it from a dog daycare in Bloomfield . And she was sayin that her dog was so sick . How much medicine he had to take be for he got better . She had a Labrador .

Yes thats what I feared becauseI have 3 babies and my yorkie will easily catch anything and get extremely sick so they haven't gone back to daycare since then.

Good .. I just understand now sum ppl don't take care of there baby like I do . Or like you sum ppl just say a dog is a dog . But I don't feel that way . I love my baby Tiger he is about to be 5 month and he is 4 pound compare to everyone around him .

I thought in order to enter a doggy daycare the dog must have the Bordetella vaccine???

Omg I know! Because when I was first trying to get them in their they wanted a same day health check report from the vet and a bunch of paperwork including proof for the bordatella and a bunch of other vaccinations and its very disappointing to see they they didn't check a dog right. Or catch signs of any dogs coughing.

So now I'm off to find a new daycare. :/ bummer

That is a bummer! I don't take my pups to daycare but I still get the Bordetella vaccine because you never know who they will meet when we are out. All I can say is shame on the owners of the dogs who took them even though they were sick or even failed to notice that the dog was sick in the first place. I mean really...Kennel cough is really hard to miss! And double shame on the daycare for allowing it!

Yeah and I'm just about to get a frenchie puppy right now and I don't want bacteria or viruses running all over my house especially not with a frenchie the are so delicate too. I guess any puppy or dog.

Yes. Any decent doggy daycare will require you provide proof that all the vaccines are up to date which includes bordetella. Both Magnus and Zoey are always up to date in ALL their vaccines. But they still caught it.

From what I've been told, the vaccine doesn't protect KC 100%. What it does is to greately reduce the chance of your pup getting bordetella. Also if caught, it's supposed to lessen the severity of KC.

I'm assuming even thought the vaccine didn't totally protect them from KC, it at least helped by not making it worse than what it could have been.
