No matter the size, all dogs need and deserve to be loved, cared for, and protected. There is a difference between the tiny Yorkie and other ones within breed standard and also with the larger ones. I've had both a tiny and ones between four and eight pounds, so I speak from experience. My Gracie needed more care because of her size and also because she had a small bone structure. Nothing stopped my little love bug, and she lived life full speed ahead. I have been very protective of all of my Yorkies, but Gracie took additional protection to keep her safe. Her teeth needed to be cleaned twice a year instead of the yearly dentals her two sisters had. Katie is on the upper end of breed standard, and I am loving how athletic she is. I am still very protective, and I don't allow her to jump inside, but she can't be stopped outside while running and playing. I still worry, but it's not as much as I did before with my three out of four smaller Yorkies I had before her. |

She only uses the washable wee wee pads and I happen to be fortunate as she doesn't make any mistakes in the house. Do you have an x-pen that you can keep her in with a bed and wee wee pads all around? Then after she masters that allow her to stay in one room with a few wee wee pads all around and when you feel comfortable you can eliminate the pads until there is only one in the room. If you have any questions you can pm me and I will be glad to help you out the best I can. |
im not sure if zoey will be a tiny because you never know what will happen...but she just barley hit the two pound mark at 20 weeks...she will be 5 months next week...she does have accidents but i feel its bec im not consistent with her she is very very smart when i leave her in the kitchen she always goes on the pad but its when i give her free reign of the house is when she goes everywhere |
My Tatiana is small. She's 3 lbs at six years old. The only concern I have with her is that she's more fragile. She's not allowed on furniture because I'm afraid she'll leap off and hurt herself. I have wooden floors. Also, when there are children around, she is safely in my arms, or in a front-carrying pet pouch. I'm concerned rambunctious children can trip and fall on her. Everything else is fine with her. She's 100% pee pad trained, and in excellent health. |

Remy was about 1 lb when we brought her home. We learned the "yorkie shuffle" the first day lol I used potty pads for her because she did need to use the bathroom more often then her big brothers. Now she does both, potties on walks and when we let the "pack" out into the back yard. At night or if we are away she will use the pads (or my bathroom matt ugh) Remy is now 5 sometime up to 5 1/2 lbs. I have a dear friend who has two and one is around the 3 lbs size...she does have to give extra care. Remy can hop onto the sofa..and off. She uses stairs for the bed. A smaller dog must be trained to use stairs for both the sofa and beds IMO Sadly many very tiny dogs are the result of bad breeding and have health issues... some are very healthy and just smaller. lol..it is like I have a skin dd who is 5'3" and one who is 5'8" --same parents and healthy beautiful etc. Remy is not tiny but has LP in one leg.. If the small tiny is from a healthy breeding program they will be fine with good care. enjoy! It is all a matter of perspective... When I walk my three dogs (and sometimes we have ACE my granddog) some people comment how big Bailey (25 lb shih Tzu) some notice how small Remy is and ask if she is a teacup (my dd kicks me to keep me quite) .. some ask how it is to care for 3 or 4 SMALL dogs.. Some ask if we are nuts to have 4 dogs!!! lol |

My little girl Hollee is one yr old and weighs 3.3lbs. Her weight hasn't changed since she was about 9mths. She has been fully trained to go out side since about 4mths. She follows her big sister Lucy who is a Dachie and is 12yrs old. Hollee sleeps on our bed all night. We put her out at about 10.30pm for a last potty and again at 6am. She can't get off our bed so we know she holds all night and is fine. Good luck with your little one. She is also the alpha and talks a lot to us. Ax:aimeeyork |

Luma is nearly 8 pounds at 1.5 years old. Rosie is 2.8 lbs at 8 months old and will probably stay 3-4lbs at the most. I do have to handle them differently. Luma is skinny and tall, fast, very athletic, high energy. She doesn't seem fragile at all. When I got Rosie I wanted a pup around the same size, maybe just not as tall and long. I ended up falling for Rosie, who was NOT the runt of the litter. She just hasn't grown much. She may be a late bloomer :p but they are from the same parents. Hard to believe sometimes! Luma is my big baby and in my eyes the perfect size (for me). Rosie I have to worry about. She wears a breakaway cat collar with a bell. She gets cold extremely easily. Has had several hypoglycemic episodes. She is free fed. Is still on puppy food in the hopes she will fatten up lol. I love them both, but Luma is more of the size I personally prefer. I would have not chosen a puppy I knew was going to end up ~3 lbs. She charted to be 4.5 lbs, but then she wasn't growing much. Don't get me wrong, I do love Rosie so much, I just didn't desire a tiny yorkie. |
