Peed on my couch Hi all....nice to be here amongst other Yorkie parents. I adopted my baby Bella 6 weeks ago. She is now 10 months old. I thought I was making progress with potty training as I have her on a feeding and potty schedule. Ive recently been letting her have more out time from her crates as shes been really good with not going in the house. Problem is, she doesnt know when to tell me she has to go. My son took her out for a walk, which she peed twice. I gave her a bath, blow dried her and all was good. Until she decided she wanted to play with my cat and started barking. She was on my couch and crouched down and peed. What a mess all over my leather couch. I immediately in a firm voice said NO....BAD GIRL....she knew I wasnt happy. I cleaned with Natures Miracle. I guess I am so frustrated and dont know what to do. Maybe perhaps its because of my cat???? Shes crate trained (doesnt eliminate in it and sleeps about 10 hours in it without going) Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
all I can say is that it takes time// a lot of time // I think she is doing well for 10 weeks old |
oops, I meant 10 month old// guess I need to read |
I agree with the above poster....sometimes puppies can get (over)excited and have accidents when they're normally very good at letting you know when they have to go potty. Even the completely potty trained adult dogs have accidents :). Keep up the good work! Welcome to YT and I'd love to see pics of your furbaby! |
Shes 10 MONTHS not 10 weeks......I will post pictures of my baby as soon as I figure out how. :) She really does want to make me happy. Shes just the sweetest. Im thinking my cat is throwing her way off. |
Hi! Welcome! I agree she is doing great, an accident at 10 months especially when paying is not bad. |
I think she might've gotten excited... I know dogs that are older and bigger that pees when they see people/dogs they like. Also, even when these little ones are "fully trained", they'll have accidents every once in a while. I think she's doing great for still being a puppy. :) |
chance are it was excitement due to the cat, but you mentioned she does not know how to tell you she has to got, here is what I did to take care of that I have a system with Lola that works like a charm. First I decided I wanted to use the bell method, I did this for two reasons, 1. did not want to encourage barking, and 2. our house is mulit level and my office is upstairs so I could not see her standing by the door. I also take her out with a leash. When she was young we went out about every two hours. I always use the same door, I started by ringing the bells myself before we would head out and kept saying, Lola goes potty, over and over and would give her a treat immediately after going, (so carry some small training ones with you when you go out) When back inside I would ring the bell again. After a few weeks, I started touching her paws to the bell saying the same thing, Lola go potty, Lola go potty. Eventually she rang it herself:thumbup: I have had her for over two years and she still rings the bell when she needs to go out, I still take her by leash and she gets a treat when we come back inside. I bought a bag of jingle bells at the craft store and a long ribbon. I threaded about 6 of them through an end of ribbon in a clump and tied it on the inside know of my front door, it hangs about nose level. I have a travel set and bring it with me if I am visiting family, once she sees it hung up she seems more comfortable since she now knows what door to go for potty. Dogs are creatures of habits, so you need to be consistent and use the same door every time. I also like using the leash, often when people let them out loose you can't see where they go or if they go. This is also helpful for when I am in a hurry, she goes out by leash and does her business pretty quickly. Good luck |

Mia peed on my couch yesterday. She was sleeping then woke up and peed on the couch . She is almost 10 months old. It sounds like yours peed from excitement. Mia does that all the time. Whenever we go on a walk and she sees someone she gets all excited and then if they acknowledge her she will get super excited and pee lol I always have to apologize. She can't help it :-/. She also has trouble telling me when she has to go. I have her on a strict schedule but I would like her to tell me when she needs to go. I have a bell on the door that she rings on occasion. Bells and treats are the best way to get a dog to tell you they have to go outside. Yorkies just take longer to learn this :-/ but I'm in the same boat as you! |
Galen always has to go pee after I bath him and dry him. It takes a while to do that. I would take her out after you do grooming |
