Introducing Deva and Current Behavioral Issues Good morning everyone. I know I made this post already. However, somehow it didn't make it to the forum. *shrugs* I cordially wish to introduce our (Mom and I) new dog named, Deva, that was surrendered 7/22 and we got her 8/5. We looked for a yorkie at the shelter, there was none. Not a yorkie, but you'll have to admit that she looks like a yorkie with her colors being black and gold *wink* This is her picture: Deva. You'll remember that not long ago, I raised the question of "Co-Adopting a Yorkie (Dog). This is the link: Co-Adopting a Yorkie (Dog). We decided to have Deva reside at my parents' house first, then at the end of the month be transferred to my house. She has already been introduced to the "pack", Mom's two dogs and my two dogs. Pretty much everyone seems to get along. They've been together for two weeks now. As soon as I get my two treat bags from Amazon.com, I am going to start right away as far as training her. I've already started with simple commands: come, sit and down. She is an EXELENT walker than Sabu and Julie. I forgot to make mention that overall she is an "AMAZING dog" as stated by the co-worker at the shelter that worked very closely with Deva. There are two issues that I currently have with Deva: *She ALWAYS wants to be petted which has become VERY annoying to my parents and I which I have to believe it would also be the same for our guests. How do I train Deva to be less persistent in her need to be petted all the time? I don't like to tell her down all the time. I feel Deva might think I don't love her. *As stated, she gets along with the other dogs. However, Mom and I have noticed this behavior. Example: Deva consistently wants to hump Julie. However, Julie gets tired of this behavior (and I don't blame her). When Julie makes it very clear that Deva's behavior is no longer acceptable, Julies barks and Deva gets upset. Atm I don't remember Deva's response. Deva's behavior needs to be correct, but how? I've already thought about using Stop That. Also, I plan on having Deva do a wisdom panel to see what kind of breed we're dealing with. I had this done Sabu. Otherwise, Mom and I feel Deva is a very good dog. Thank you in advance for your comments. Starlette PS...I won't be able to respond to this tread till Monday |
Deva is adorable!!! Congrats! I'm so glad you were able to rescue her! :D |
Congratulations on your little bundle of fur! I would try picking her up and petting her before she nudges you and then when you stop petting if she nudges you put her down and walk away or ignore her. Hopefully she will get the message that nudging gets the opposite effect from what she wants. This might take a little time but hopefully it works. |
