Great article Must READ! Here is a great article I found in regards to some political happenings in the Ohio Puppy Mill ring. Caged: How Ohio Politicians Keep the State's Puppy Mill Business Booming with Little Regulation | Features | Cleveland Scene |
So Sad:( I see quite a few breeder yorkies coming out of those puppy mills on Petfinder. Most of them have dental issues and socialization issues at a minimum. How do the rescues usually get the dogs out of the puppy mills? Do they go around to the puppy mills and volunteer to take whatever dogs they don't want?? Or is it exclusively from the authorities shutting puppy mills down?? It would be nice if there was more enforcement. I was watching an episode of "pitbulls and parolee's" on Animal Planet and Animal Control was out at her house listing citations at her kennels, where the dogs are actually taken care of...yet they let puppy mills get away with deplorable conditions!! It just doesn't make sense to me!! |
From what I have seen rescues get these pups several ways. One of them is by them being shut down, as well as basically like a whole sale when they have too many pups that havent sold ect. If the mill is expecting a large load of fresh litters they will get ride of them at a discounted price. It would be interesting to find out more about this process and how rescues and rescuing works though. I hope someone here will have more knowledge than me on the subject. ;) |
Oh sigh. This gives me so little hope. There is no real change here, and no one seems empowered or willing to make any. Unbelievably sad. It has always saddened me that the Amish so readily participate in this barbaric industry. To me, it would seem "Being Amish" and "owning a puppy mill" would be an oxymoron, but apparently not. :( |

One of those awful mill breeders just got "off" on a TON of charges. It turns my stomach to know he's only one out of many who will continue this sort of behavior. Be warned...there's a pretty awful picture with this article about him. Amish dog breeder cleared of animal cruelty charges - News - CircleVilleToday.com |
