Chewer friendly collars? For ID purposes only of course! :) I'm looking for recommendations of a good collar to use for a doggy that has a history of chewing through a collar. Normally I'd recommend the breakaway, or a BB collar, but the BB is kind of pricey and would be a waste if chewed through. And with the breakaway I'm afraid the pup will learn to pull it off. You all know how smart and sneaky these babies are. :D anyway, any recommendations? |
I finally invested in Lupine collars and leashes for my Wheaten terrier, but by then she grew out of her chewing habit! (they are guaranteed "even if chewed"- lupinepet.com) |
If he can get his mouth on it to chew it then it is probably too loose. |
I got this collar for Bella: Personalized Dog Collars / Personalized Side-Release Buckle Dog Collar -- Orvis I got it in pink with black embroidery for her name and my phone number, and an extra-small fits her tiny neck well. I've had it for several months, and it looks as new as the day I bought it. |
Tokipoki was telling good things about Lupine & their lifetime guarantee. That seems like it would be a winner. And just for the record, I really do support wearing collars for ID purposes - especially during the summer months. Not everyone knows about microchips. There are 3 lost toy dogs in my neighborhood right now!! I can't even imagine how devastated I would be if one of mine got away. We're just off a busy street with buses that go into NYC too. Even though I have a secure backyard, I'm crazy dog lady watching them like a hawk everytime they're back there. I even double check that their leash is securely attached to their harnesses before walks. I know I'm kinda over the top about it & my husband gets annoyed. But I'd much rather be safe than sorry. |
The Lupine and Orvis collars look very similar and both are made of nylon with heavy duty construction. What I like about the Orvis collars is that you can have them personalized with ID information embroidered onto them. Bella doesn't tolerate tags hanging from her collar--she chews holes in the metal tags and I worry about them wearing down her teeth. |

I'm sorry but I'm just curious... How are they able to chew the collar? Do they chew each others? |
Are you asking me? I wouldn't know. Someone asked me if I knew of a collar that was good for chewers. My pup doesn't chew his things. Just thought I'd ask YT since I'm sure someone here would have a recommendation. I was right. :) |
