Clicker training with a Yorkie Hi, recently I have ordered a clicker via Post, and I am waiting for it. I have decided to do with my Pippi a Clicker Training because she is running away when she is not on a leash and I try to catch her. I will describe my progress on my blog and here is a post about my beginning: :):D Everything about Yorkies - training and raising have a look at my post and follow me on my blog cause I want to include more details soon. I work a lot and usually I am very busy... Do you also experience problems with Yorkies running away of if you had experienced did you manage to solve them?? Greetings to All YOU |
Yes, I have that problem too. Mainly bc my yorkies want to meet EVERYone, so if they were ever off leash - they'd be off and running if they saw another person or dog. So mine are never off leash unless they're fenced in. Looking forward to hearing of your progress! |
My Molly is always on a leash. She would run away too but now I can drop the leash and tell her wait and she does - of course if another person comes with a dog she wants to run to them but i give a stern NO and she stops. Molly did not want to come to me in the house either so I left the leash tethered to her so that I could catch her when I needed. Slowly I am taking it off and testing her. You may just need to keep working with Pippi in this manner. I never thought she would listen but it takes time and effort. Good luck! |
I used clicker training with both my older dog and my cat. I didn't use it to teach my pets to come to me. I used it to mark other behaviors(sit, down, shake etc). I can click the clicker though and my cat will come running from wherever she is in the house, which is pretty cool...she knows it means snacks. It did take a minute to get used to using as you have to mark the behaviors right when they do it. |
I am achieving small results In one of my posts on my blog I have mentioned my progress. However, it is not that easy, I mean she has already started coming to me, but still I see her hesitatingw hat to chose: fun with other dog/ running after another person or getting caught by me :-) I must say, clicker has not arrived to me by post, I don't know why it takes so long, but I have alreasy started using some other methods like positvie reinforcement by much attention and giving her her favourite dog snacks/treats:):):) it is much better than it used to be, I am happy about it!:animal-pa |
