poopie poopie Every morning i am waking up to the same thing. My young puppy is pooping in his crate. He is only about 10 weeks old now. The breeder told us to leave him a food and water bowl in there at all times. how can i stop him from pooping in his crate? What am i doing wrong? He also has a bed, that i washed many times, and 2 toys, also underneath everything is a puppy pad (made by simple solution). Please help me!!! What have you used with your puppy or puppies that has worked? |
Ive read that puppies do not have the ability, physically, to be able to hold their bowels til atleast 12 weeks. I would give it little while longer and be consistant before changing your plan. Goodluck :) |

thanks i'll be able to wait, but if he isnt able to hold it then how come when he is out of the crate he runs to his pad to use the potty? |
You want to stop this pooping in the crate right away though. Since he can't hold it overnight, you will probably need to get up a time or two so that he can relieve himself. I know this doesn't sound fun but you don't want this bad habit to continue. |
I think you are saying that when he is not in his crate he uses his puppy pad. Is he able to use it when he is in the crate - he has a cage around it? Please do not withhold his food and water at this age. Maybe you should try to disinfect the crate, maybe he smells something in there and thinks it is ok. He is very young for you to worry, his little poopies are so small, hopefully solid?? Maybe try distilled water. I bought one gallon when I first got my puppies and it helped their poop get more solid. After one gallon, I switched them to tap and all was fine. |
If your puppy has too much room in his crate he'll sleep in one end and use the other end as a bathroom. Reuger did that when we brought him home. At first he did great then after a while he started using one end as his bathroom. I got a box and put it in the back end, leaving Reuger just enough room to lay down comfortably, and guess what? He only uses his crate for sleeping now, not for a bathroom. I hope this helps. |
when i first got lexi, she was in a crate with just enough room to turn around, no wee pad in there, no water, but every single hour i would get up and let her out and say go potty and she did... put her back, after a month later, every 2 hrs, after another month, every 3 hrs.. it really works, now she sleeps with me and she goes when she has to. jumps of the bed and goes potty on her pad |

That sounds like a good solid plan...I'm gonna write this one down for my future pup. You just gradually extend his/her "hold it" time... Francie :) |
