Running circles around our youngest grandchild... Martini thinks its great fun to run circles and bark at our 2 youngest grandkids and lately has been nipping at their legs when they run. When I try to get involved it turns into a circus, because then Martini thinks we are all playing and usually one of the kids ends up crying. I don't want the kids to be afraid of him and I don't want Martini to think this is okay. We've tried stopping and verbally saying a strong no, but he just keeps on going. Any suggestions? |
Side note, he is only 6 months old, so some of this is puppy behavior, but again we don't want this continuing! |
Institute a "no running" rule around the dog. The puppy is little and gets over stimulated by things easily. Until he is older, it's much easier to control the stimuli versus controlling the natural reaction of the puppy. |
I had to use an empty soda can filled with a few pennies. I would shake it any me our pup would chase the girls. It took a few weeks but now (11 months) he doesn't do it at all. |

The problem with trying to discipline a puppy while they are doing zoomies is you can not catch them and running after them only adds to their fun of being chased. When Lola was a puppy I kept a leash on her in the house, it made it so easier to get her if I needed to correct a bad behavior or get her to take her out to potty. |
