Hi everyone,

I just brought Lucy home yesterday; she is 10 weeks today. She is so adorable and such a good puppy. Our first night with her went rather well; she woke up at 3:30am and I took her outside (brrrrr..I live in Wisconsin) and of course it had just snowed so I had a really hard time telling if she peed or not b/c the snow came up to her belly. I think she did by the way she was standing. I praised her and put her back in her kennel and she cried for less than a minute and went right back to sleep. She is a ball of energy also, wow!

Anyway I have a question, do you measure how much you feed your puppy? The breeder told me to feed her twice a day and let her eat as much as she wants but after 45 minutes take the bowl away. Lucy seems to be eating okay but I can't tell if she is eating enough. I feel the bowl probably way too much since I'm not measuring and she spends a couple of minutes eating and then takes off to play, play, play and there is still a lot left in the bowl. Should I measure? Should I feed her in her kennel? I have been just leaving the bowls on the kitchen floor.

Oh, another question, the breeder taped her ears yesterday but after several hours she got one ear out of the tape so I just took it all off b/c it seemed to be causing her to scratch at it and so far as of this morning her ears are still standing up! Can I expect them to stay up now or do you think they will flop down again?

I'm no expert, but when my dog was a puppy, i had a lot of trouble with her ears. I taped and taped and retaped. it seemed that when they went up they stayed up. the only thing is weak ears sometimes you need to make sure you keep the hair shaved untill they are stronger because the hair sometimes weights them down. As far as feeding, I never measured food, but I always left it out. you are probably doing the best way by taking it away after awhile. because it took forever to housebreak mine.

I feed my puppy a teaspoon to a tablespoon every 3 to 4 hours. On the ears I dont know for sure my dogs ears weere up and now one is down so it could be something that periodically happens. Im gonna shave the tips of my dogs ears.

When Higgins was little, we fed him like Chachi's Mom, about a teaspoon to a tablespoon every 4 hours until about 9 pm when we all went to bed. At four months we went to three times a day. The vet told us that the only need a TOTAL of about 1/4 for the whole day! That's not a lot -- check it out. We always offered dry food and fresh water all day. Now that he is over a year old, we are offering dry food only, all day. We are feeding both dogs Sensible Choice natural food for "Senior" dogs. Pogo, at 13, is our senior dog and was gaining weight on the puppy stuff he mooched from Higgins. So, the vet okayed the Senior food for Junior Higgins (now almost 15 months old). Both of them are in great shape. BTW, Higgins still doesn't eat more than about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of food per day. He weighs 6.5 lbs and is ALL muscle!

Hello! My baby is also called Lucy and she is 3 now. When she was a puppy, we didn't tape her ears at all, we just kept the hair short and we had no problems! :)
