Is 5months too young for first groom salon visit? Hi y'all, Daisy and Duke are scheduled for their first pro grooming appt next Tuesday. I made the appt at a place near to home called the Pampered Puppy. I want their first experience to be at a place that is a bit quieter than our local Petsmart. After making the appt I was trying to remember how old my Indie was when I first had her groomed. Sadly I cannot remember since that was about 14 years ago. How old was your baby at their first groomer visit? Do you think pups personality has to come into play? Daisy is quite chill about most everything while Duke is strung tight as a guitar string. Lol Of course I have been trimming their nails and trimming the hair that gets in their eyes and bathing them so they are used to being groomed at home. Daisy does well and Duke acts like I am trying to murder him. Thoughts? |
Though, like you, it's hard to remember back (like yesterday for most of us :D), but I usually wait till the Spring Clipping for a Puppy, I do for all mine. Given our very high temps down here, I don't let my guys (bodies) grow out very long. I do let their Faces and Tails have some growth. But, I wouldn't consider age as an issue. Just do it when necessary. |
Hi There! Do you know what you want done? Just a puppy cut.. trim.? Please make sure you talk to the groomer in person and if you have a picture in mind how you want them cut, take that in. Both of your babies have had all their puppy shots correct? Especially Bordetalla. Most grooming salons won’t even welcome them in if they haven’t had their shots. *If this grooming salon is strict with all dog’s having their shots it should be a nice clean salon. It is always good to go see the salon before you take your babies in, just to check it out. See how clean they keep it- where they keep the dogs.. talk with the groomer.. etc etc. |
And make sure they do not express the anal glands until and if you are satisfied with their professionalism and expertise. |
I waited until a couple of weeks after Bella had her last puppy booster shots, so she was in no danger of catching parvo from other dogs. That puts her at a little older than 4 months. |
They can go any time after two weeks after there last shots |
