Hello 😎 Hi my name is dana. Just bought a 9 week old yorkie girl named Bella . I am trying to potty train her and sometimes she uses the potty pads and sometimes she doesn't. She is very smart . Any advice? |
She is young and will catch on. I kept my pup in a x-pen with her toys, bed and potty pad. She was almost a year before she was allowed to run the house. We did let her out tho to play with us. When she was out, we kept her potty pad in the same place. Now that is her place and a couple more. lol When we are outside, she wants to come in to potty. |
I agree, keep her in a small area when you are not home or even if you need to be in another part of the house for awhile. As for pads, I wouldn't put them "around" in too many areas as she'll get used to them and still use the spot of pottying--ask me how I know this. lol I would watch for her tell signs of when she needs to potty. Try playing with a pad closeby so when you see these signs, put her on the pad. Have a catch phrase that you use only for this purpose. As she is doing her business, use the catch phrase, then either treat and praise or just praise (whichever you decide). The key is to find her tell signs, and place her on the pad and keep putting her on the pad if she tries to run off it. Once she learns the catch phrase you can use it to tell her what you expect of her. Also, puppies usually will need to poop right after eating a big meal so watch for that and keep her near a pad so you can place her on it when she needs it. Good luck and congrats on you addition. |
I agree with what they said, but I def want to say welcome to YT! :yorkietal |
I got Gina at 9 weeks, I have trained her to come to me as soon as she gets up from a nap, I also take her out side every 45 mins to 1 hour. She still has accidents every now and then, but she's only 13 1/2 weeks now. It took 2 days for her to start coming to me when she wakes up. Keep at it, and listen to the others advise, Yorkies are stubborn, but can be trained. Good luck. Cheers Quad |
Hello and welcome to YT. |
:D I totally agree with Mom To Hot Rod.....potty training Harry was made SO easy by using key phrases while he was actually 'going'....:D "Good wee-wee" and "Good poo-poo" whilst in action - after a couple of weeks I could just take him outside and say "Go wee-wee" etc....and he does it on command! Very, VERY handy when it's pouring with rain....:D Oh, and welcome to YT from the UK - look forward to getting to know you! :) Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |
