Has your Yorkie Ever Chased a Cat? We have a few strays in the neighborhood. I usually don't get out of the car with Uni until they run away, or if they don't, and Uni sees one, I carry her inside. But last night I took Uni and Toto outside to pee, and Uni was off leash (she's great off leash) and there was a cat I didn't see hiding behind my car. Uni got close (unknowingly) and the cat ran off. Uni gave chase, but a few feet until I noticed. I freaked and screamed Uni! Leave it! And what do you know she did! :) WTG Uni! Toto was not paying attention at all! Otherwise he would have been barking like crazy! You guys got any good stories? |
The only time Kiko has ever bolted out the front door was to chase a stray cat. She was still a puppy and didn't know leave it or come at the time. Fortunately, the cat was able to jump a nearby fence and get out of sight. As soon as the cat was gone, Kiko flatten to the ground and looked around with a look that said oh shoot, what the heck am I supposed to do now? My daughter had run around the building Kiko was behind and Kiko stayed flattened to the ground until Em got to her and picked her up. She will still go after cats in our little backyard or bark and try to chase strays we pass when we are out walking(she's on a leash, so it's not like she could give much chase). She knows leave it now and will continue walking, but will make all sorts if whining noises to tell me that there's a cat over there and she's not happy about walking away. Edited to add, She likes to chase birds too. |
They chase them in the back yard if I let them out. I can always tell when one is ut there because Allie barks her fool head off and basically runs herself into the patio door over and over again. When they go out, she'll run around and then pace back and forth in front of the fence where the stupid cat went over. |
I have 4 cats in the house. So he likes to run and chase one or "loving" one lol. We have a 3 kittens and momma outside. He is curious about them but does not bark. |
Milo hasn't had a chance to really just chase one b/c very seldom do we ever go outside without him being on a leash. But, there is a cat across the street that absolutely drives him wild. It's really good about keeping out of my sight, but somehow Milo always knows when he's there. First I hear Milo start with his low little growl & he grows stiff all over with his eyes glued on the yard across the street & then starts barking. Finally, I see that darned cat sneaking somewhere around the yard. By then Milo is barking his head off. I really believe that cat loves to torment Milo b/c he appears quite often. |
My pups really do not have much experience with cats. We did have one get in our fenced in backyard last year. Vivi, the min pin, saw the cat first and went into a true point stance. Piccolo, then went into vicious mode, and I was not sure if the cat was going to be able to make it out alive or not. She had the cat cornered as I was running trying to get hold of Piccolo before a fight broke out. Thankfully, the cat was finally able to jump on top of the fence and get away. Both dogs walked around with their tails straight up afterwards and looked quite proud of their accomplishment of getting rid of that interloper. ;) |
Sophie Kate grew up with a cat who we lost due to Kidney Cancer in March. She loves all cats and think they will play chase with her because Avery used - so yes she has chased a cat. Problem is now she thinks all cats are her play buddies and will initiate play with them. My Vet has a "Clinic Cat" who lives at the clinic, he is a sweet boy but really does not want to play, that can be a challenge to Sophie Kate. |
We are home, to two wonderful cats, snowshoe siamese. Very talkative and loving…but no love is allowed, to either of my cats, if one of my pups are in my space. They will chase them off, not meaning any harm to them just showing who owns who!!!!:we're #1: God forbid they dare get on the bed!!!!! The cats are not at all intimidated, they don't hide, nor are either upset. I do let the pups know that I don't like their attitude with the cats but I don't want to set up any type of resentment between the two species, so I mostly let them work it out..and usually they end up all enjoying each others company. |
Zoey's good off leash as well and I didn't notice a cat that was right beside the garage. Zoey growled a little and when I looked to see what it was, the cat zipped off. And of course, Zoey made chase. Freaked me out side the cat was about 3 times the size. When I screamed for her to come back, she came running back. LOL |
Cute stories everyone! Uni doesn't growl at the cats. I think she wants to go say hi. Lol. There was one time we had a VERY friendly stray cat. He would come up to you when you called him! We brought him in the house and Uni was pretty curious but friendly. We gave the cat some milk (bad move, milk farts!!!!) and then we noticed he was infested with fleas, so then he got kicked to the curb. |

Billi hasn't chased any cats yet, but she has tried to chase the family of wild turkeys in our neighborhood. They take a family stroll most evenings and I've found I need to keep her on a tight leash then. Girl is a little too brave! |
When we go for a walk, occasionally we'll see a cat lounging on his yard & Turbo of course wants to go after him/her. The cat doesn't even pay attention to him loll doesn't budge. Turbo will be huffing & puffing, pulling on his lead & Princess will follow what he does. Uni sounds just like Mimi, all she wants to do is be friendly w/the cats (she's overly friendly w/anyone). I don't let her get too close bc I don't want the cat to scratch her nose or anything. |
Callie had never meet a cat close up. When we moved there is two cats here that wonder the neighborhood and Callie who never barks will bark at them. When we where still getting the house ready the cats had been used to no one living here so they would be in the bushes in the front well my mom was leaving one night after working on some stuff and the cat came out of the bushes and my mom and the cat where both startled lol. |
Couver and Khloe live with two cats, so they are very much used to them. Occasionally, Couver will chase them and come back with a mouth full of fur. He isn't particularly fond of them, but Khloe LOVES them. She will pounce on them and give them kisses. It's funny how they have completely different feelings towards the kitties :) |
Nope, We have a lot of stray cats here but the dogs are always leashed and the cats run off when they smell the dogs :D |
Oh yeah, mine will chase anything that moves really! Lol. Off leash is not an option for us, sadly! |

Way back when Kaji and I still lived in Irvine, I would let him off leash as we round the corner back to our condo when coming home from a long walk. By then he'd be tired of the walk, plus playing at the park with all the dogs that were out walking. One day, he surprised me and sprinted over to something. It was a cat that was twice his size. He started his lets play dance, and jumped all around in front of the kitty. The kitty just sat there, very still. Kaji continued his "hey buddy, let's play dance" yet the cat just sat motionless watching him. Kaji finally noticed, walked over to the kitty. I swear, I thought I could read his mind. He said, "hey man, are you ok?" While slowly walking up to the cat to investigate. That's when the cat swat him in the face! The cat got a fist full of fur, and Kaji ran right past me, and upstairs to our condo. You'd think he'd have learned his lesson, but he still tries to interact with cats, possums, skunks... Anything he thinks will be his friend. |
One thing I didn't say in my post yesterday: I hope everyone realizes that a cat can blind a dog if it swats it across the face at just the right angle. Therefore, I am extremely cautious around them. |

An uncle's dog is blind in one eye because of a cat. The dog is a pitbull mix, imagine what cats can do to a small dog! |
