Basil will Not Jump off furniture Basil is a very strange dog. He will not jump off or on furniture. We had his vision checked along with the rest of him but he is perfectly normal. I know I have a pretty high bed and most of our dogs can't jump up on it but they can jump down. Basil wont do either. Oh and by the way Basil is not a yorkie he's a shih Tzu and he's almost 2. Anybody have any thoughts. My vet has no idea either being that he's normal she suggested taking him to a dog psychologist but I think helping him off and on furniture is a bit cheaper. |
Be glad Basil is not wanting to jump off the furniture. These little dogs can possibly break a leg or injury to the head if they jump off furniture. Same thing is jumping on furniture. You have a very well behaved furbaby, so don't try to change him. |
Why don't you get some puppy stairs or a ramp? |
None of mine know how to jump up or down off furniture. They used ramps from day one. Also, I live in a ranch style house so only 1-2 stairs. So they do not know how to go up and down a flight of stairs. Did Basil use to jump? |
I agree count your blessings about him not jumping. I also agree about the steps or ramp. I got a nice set of steps for Georgie..... he doesn't use them either but Georgie is a special boy LOL. |
I agree that not jumping is good. I groom Bella on the hot tub cover, she pulled away from me and jumped off yesterday. My heart stopped!! Thankfully she was unhurt. No more grooming on the hot tub. |
dog My boys use the little stairs to get on the couch. My house looks so doggy with the stairs and their blankets over the couches. All for the love of a dog and their safety. You do not want them jumping off and having a leg problem. |
Ditto on the pet stairs or ramp. You definitely don't want them jumping off of furniture. Ebay has some great inexpensive pet stairs. |
Speaking as someone who had her dog launch herself off the couch, 4,000.00 and a broken leg later, be glad he doesn't. Jess is not allowed to go on or off furniture..ever! |

Agreed. A young dog maynot have problems but as they get older they may suffer problems "from" jumping = knees from impact. I have an ottoman by the couch and bed. So the jumps not so high. Because Moki will jump if its there or not. The bed is the problem. But using the ottoman cuts the jump in 1/2. |
I agree with everyone else, stairs or a ramp. Buddy is huge and can't master stairs yet. Sweetie is tiny and goes up and down them with no problem. I hope buddy masters the stairs soon or I'm gonna have to make my husband build a ramp. |
Thank you for all your help. I used to have doggie steps by my bed but he never used them. However my basset hounds used to use them and I took them away because It's very hard to deal with two 68 pound dogs climbing on your bed and wanting to play. It's not like he used to and stopped, he never did since he was a puppy. Now I have to worry because we have a shorkie with hip displeasure and a yorkie with mild LP. So maybe I'll have to invest in a ramp or stairs and take my chances with the basset hounds. |
