ugh looks like Carrageenan is used in A LOT of human food too so watch out and can have the same effect in humans as animals. Looks like just Plato thinkers for Callie!

I know I was one of the people who did not believe this until is happened to me but bully sticks DO brake and crack teeth your dog can chew them for 5 plus years and never have a problem until one day wham broken tooth.

I read that too... Mind if I ask how big Callie is? I think I'm little less worried because Magnus is about 16 lbs and his teeth are that much stronger. As for Zoey, she waits till Magnus chews on it making it soft and soggy. Then she'll trick Magnus into leaving it for something else... Sneaky lil furball she is... LOL

If it wasn't for Magnus making it soft for her, I don't think I'd give it to her either seeing as how small her teeth are... I'd actually give her texas toothpicks in place of bully sticks. I can't now b/c Magnus goes through those like butter and since it takes Zoey longer, Magnus will take it from her.

Enzo likes Bully sticks & the Get Naked chews...he is always chewing, i think it actually relaxes him...what is carrageenan and why is it bad for them?

Here is a really good thread started by Jenny.

I would stay clear away from anything with it. Also just so you know if Enzo ever gets an upset tummy from chewing a bully stick, pull it up. Bacteria can live on Bully sticks causing upset tummies. I personally find it is better not to give them then to wonder what is going to happen if he chews one.

Magnus,

I think any type of chews are just a waste of money. So many issues can come with them.

Have you ever thought of making your own?

The the vet referred to it as a cruncher/ bone breaking tooth. Luckily I had pain meds on hand and Sunday night I fasted her so as soon as I could get her in they could remove it. She had to get stitches because its a pretty big tooth but the most common to break on bones/ bully sticks.

Yes.. I even bought a dehydrator to make home made snacks.. The only reason I stuck with the bullies was because that was the only thing that last more then 10 min. And I don't want to give him too big of a piece of sweet potato. *sigh*

My Peanut is sensitive, but he would always get sick after eating a Bully Stick or Texas Toothpick.. so I just stopped cold turkey. He hasn't had a chew treat in 10 + months and doesn't miss them.

Have you ever seen this?

I found this on the web… you take a pan or small Tupperware, poor water, little toys and also you can add strawberries, peas any fruit veggies your dog likes . Then take it out when it is done and they will lick/ chew the ice to get out the goodies!!

I sent this to my friend she has a Yorkie mix ( 10 pounds) that loves to chew- she said she loved it!!!

If that is too big you can also chop fruit pieces or veggie pieces in an ice cube tray and get the same results!

Well you can make them any size...Just watch out for any tummy issues when you are letting him chew.. That's all I was getting at :D

I've been making them chicken jerky b/c I didn't want to buy them with all the bad things on with them...

That ice thing... Do you take the ice outside for them to play with? I would imagine it'll get really messy if you let them at it indoors. If it's for outside, it'll be little hard since I don't have a back yard. Just a small pation that's fenced and little bit of grass I planted so they can potty. But I'd love to try it when I get the chance!

That's actually good to know just in case either one ever (I hope it never happens) has a broken tooth. If anything, I'll remember to at least give pain meds before rushing to the ER.

Umm well probably Lol. If you make a little ice cube I would think you can lay out a little blanket or something.

Do you have a patio?

It's more of a outside/ summer thing. Hmmm do you have any kongs?
