Probably cotton coated. My one boy is cotton coated and constantly tangles. He has to keep his hair shorter with a sanitary cut (shaved belly and under arms). He does not like being brushed or groomed because the tangles hurt to be brushed. |
thankyou i think your right its a shame she will have to be cut short being longer haired suits her |
I use a flea comb to groom Ian because the comb's teeth are really close together, and he is guaranteed to be tangle-free. I also keep him in a puppy cut year round. He also has a cotton coat. |
I'm pretty sure Bella is cotton coat. She is 6 months and starting to Matt pretty badly. |

Have you tried an undercoat rake on the cotton coat? This if there is undercoat present will take that undercoat out. Also have you or the groomer tried thinning shears on the coat? I use a wide toothed comb first on the tangles and or mats. Start from the botton of the coat, and hold with your other hand the area you wish to brush/comb out. For conditioner which ever one you use, use a whole lot of it, and make sure you saturate the roots, and lift up the coat to get all through the coat. Let the conditioner stay in for 10-15 minutes, meanwhile you wrap your boy in a towel and hold him on your lap. Rinse but do not rinse all of it off. Then a must blow it dry using a pin brush - CC makes good ones - called a wooden pin brush. Then use a wider tooth comb to comb through and finish with a smaller tooth comb. Have a grooming spray on hand, so that as the coat dries where you have not blown it dry you can re-wet the coat. |
could just be because of puppy coat. you can use detangle sprays if it helps |
thankyou i tryied leaving conditioner in and brushed her with it in it did help but there is still luggs |
Lola's legs get very tangled too. Her back leg was so matted I thought I'd have to cut it all off. I saturated the hair with coconut oil and it came out pretty easily. |
It may just be the puppy coat. But it will still mat when she's older. I use Wampum Miracle Coat spray - which is fabulous on mats. Also, I purchased a round tipped, curved 5" groomer scissor. I simply clip out the really bad mats. Lucy mats under her legs. My daughter holds her still and I cut out the mats under the legs very easily. Good luck. |
