I Feel Horrible Right Now! I took Ruby in to the vet today because I felt an abccess on her side , well in turn out to be her microship. So I felt great. Then I ask to have her ears checked and they put a scope in there and deep inside they were really dirty and worse of all she had ear mites. I feel really horrible and guilty how did thid happen, how did I allow this to happen. I promise I clean her ears everytime she gets bathe with alchohol cotton and a cotton swab. I just don't understand. I feel like crying . I am such I bad pet owner. :thumbdown |
You are not a bad pet owner! Sometimes things like that just happen and it isn't your fault! |
It's not your fault, it happens, Just be glad they checked her ears and now tey can treat her. |
Ahhhh...don't be so hard on yourself! From what I understand, it is easy for dog's or cat's to catch ear mites and they are easily taken care of! If you were a bad pet owner, you wouldn't have taken Ruby into the vet! You sound like a very responsible pet owner to me! Hugs to you! |
Don't feel bad - at least you had her at the vet & the problem was caught! You've been cleaning her ears, so the problem probably could have been much much worse! Don't be so hard on yourself, you did the right thing by taking Ruby to the vet. I hope she gets better soon! |
Dont feel bad, it happens. You are a wonderful pet owner!!!! I hope her ears feel better soon. Chloe sends kisses :p |
Don't feel bad. I had the samething happen once. I felt horrible. I am very strict with the health of my babies and i was freaking with my vet saying how could this be! How could this happen. I clean ears weekly..I felt like such a loser.Once he calmed me down, he explianed that mites can be picked upin teh yard, mites that were dropped from a stray cat that itched his ear in my back yard..we have lots of those. So, now I use Revolution..it protects them from mites fleas and other pests! don't feel bad..it happens. Irene |
It happens. Don't beat yourself up over it. At least now you know and you can treat it. |
Oh, lordy. I know how you feel. I placed a puppy before Christmas and the new mom e-mailed me that he had ear mites. That had never happened in all my years til I bought Biewers from Germany. My vet jokingly told me they were "European mites" as she was handing me Milbecide for 10 Yorkies to the tune of $11.00 a dose. Good thing is that no flushing is needed and it is a one-dose treatment..If you have other dogs, I would suggest you treat them as well. The treatment is for cats but is also used for dogs; that tells me that cats get them too. You can clean til the cows come home and not get rid of the mites. Those little buggers are strong and not easily done away with.. YOU are NOT a bad mommy so get the treatments, take care of the problem and remember, you took her to the vet so you cannot be the bad mommy that you feel you are..Reminds me of the times kids come home from school with a note saying a kid in the class had head bugs and you need to check and treat your kid... |
Oh honey - that's all part of being a pet parent - sometimes there are things we don't know about - it's not like they can tell us Right ? they must have not been too bad if she wasn't scratching like crazy - you did great going to the vet for the bump and had a bonus finding out about the mites before they got worse !!! It's just like fleas - we don't know how they get them... but when they do we feel terrible... but it's all normal and easily treated - just be glad the vet found them and good luck !!! |
Don't feel bad, you are a good parent! It's hard but sometimes we do everything we can and these little furbabies keep acting like DOGS! They eat bad stuff, they roll in bad stuff , they rumble with weird critters and they get doglike problems. :( |
You are NOT a bad mommy!! You brought your baby to the vet and you are getting her treated, right? I BAD owner, would not do that. YOU are GOOD!! Hope Ruby feels better soon! :D |
Anyone who takes their puppy/dog/animal to the vet, is a good owner. Things happen, but taking care makes you a good person. :aimeeyork |
I'm sure Ruby will be fine. What a great mommy you are asking to have her ears checked. You went in for something, that turned out to be OK, but thought to have her ears checked too. :) Not everyone would do that. Furbabies can't tell us when something is wrong, I'm sure they would if they could! From what I have heard ear mites are easy to heal. Please give Ruby a YT hug, and ask her to give you one too. :D :luvu: |

Thanks to everyone I just called and she will be ready to be picked up at 5. I can't wait. I owe her appologies. I want to clarify I am a yorkie daddy not mommy. Again daddy. Thanks to everyone for the comforting words. |
Everyone is right, you took her to the vet, so that makes you a great mommy. Also, things like this happen, I am sure everyone on this board's furbaby at one time or another has had fleas, ear mites or any of those normal things. Trust me, everytime we get back from my MIL's we have to battle fleas with my boxer, she gets out in the woods with her boxer buddies and does god knows what. You are the best puppy mommy I am sure. |
You are not a bad mommie! You are a very caring and loving and nurturing mommie who took her baby to the vet and now you have the meds to make it all better! It happens. I can clean Luigi's ears every single day, and every single day, I can get a lot of wax out. But Brasco. I can just clean his once a week and they never have any build up or anything! All furbabies are different and things just happen. Please, don't beat yourself up over this! |
Lacey got ear mites often. And we cleaned her ears often, but she would still get them. Lacey would see the bottle of ear medicine and she would start running to hide behind the couch. She HATED with a passion getting her ears cleaned. |

Hey daddy, make sure when grooming the hairs inside the ears are plucked. Sometimes groomers will "miss" this and mites just love to snuggle in there. It's like everyone said, no matter what, things do happen. I'm surprised your furbaby wasn't scratching at her ears like crazy. |
Well, OK so congratulate yourself for being a good daddy to your little Ruby! I think that makes you even a better parent than we realized. Most men wouldn't have noticed the bump in the first place, or even feel like a bad parent for finding out their pup had mites! At least a lot of men that I know. You took her in to be cared for and that is what counts. You are a good Daddy!! |
geting her ears treated proves what a good daddy you are, just give ruby lots of kisses and cuddles she will of missed you today. |
Those Microchips are... well.... micro! lol The fact that you felt this grain of rice lump in her tells us all that you are one watchfull father! I myself am very impressed! The fact that you missed the mites... Please, I am Positive that had you been equipped with an ear scope you would have found those too! Good job Daddy! |
