Potty training 2 Hi! I am getting sister yorkie puppies on Thursday. This is my first time with this breed and my first time with 2 puppies at once. Can I train them together or would separately be more successful? Thank you!!! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congratulations on your 2 new puppies! Double the pleasure. :) I would train them together. Do you know which method you are going to use? Depending on their age and size, I would recommend piddle pad training indoors to start. I wrote an article on my blog about potty training: Potty Training Small Dogs - Dog Life and Style Share pictures when your little girls are home! |

I agree with Kristin. I would train them together. And start with potty pads. Also I would have your sister leave the pups with their mom for at least 12 weeks. Congrats and welcome to YT. Please post some pics of your new pups |
Congrats on your new pups.. :) |
Thank you!! I'm a little nervous with 2 at once. I just don't want to mess them up! My last baby was a Minpin and she was a breeze to train. I've never used the pads and definitely won't want to forever but they do seem too tiny to go out right away. They love each other so much(part of the reason I got both) but one is very much the dominate. Hoping she gets it so sister follows suit!! Very excited about my yorkie adventure!!! |
The smaller they are, smaller the bladder so they'll probably need to pee often. Especially if they're puppies. I'd like to add that yorkies can be very stubborn so be patient if they don't get it quickly like your Minpin. Very happy for your new additions! Please post pics of your furbies soon! |
Welcome and Congrats on your new pups, I must say you are braver than I am. . . 2 pups mean "Double the Trouble" . . . You are welcome to look at my web site for some training tips. I've out lined the potty training methods and several others that I used and were very successful with. The link is in my signature blow. Good Luck ! |
How exciting! Two yorkies at once, I am so jealous! Your life is about to change big time. They are such a wonderful breed and I know they will have you wrapped around their little fingers in no time! Congrats and please do post picts!! |
Thank you so much for all the tips! It's been 13 years since I've trained a puppy. We're definitely crate training and I know the importance of consistency. Of course with 2 furry babies and 2 (14 and 8) human babies eager to help...things could go crazy fast!! The only thing I'm not worried about is self soothing since they have each other. I know we can do it, even if it takes longer than I'd like, and our Thelma and Louise will be very happy!!! |
