Hi there. My name is Sarah. I'm a wife and mother, expecting my 5th little girl in September. My husband blessed me the other day with our sweet little furry addition Milo. He is 7 weeks old and only weighs in at .9lbs! I am in love. I am a new yorkie owner and would love ANY advice you have for a new yorkie mom :)

Welcome to Yorkie Talk! This forum is full of info and helpful members! :-) :-) I would have Nutrical or Karo syrup on hand for hypoglycemia since your pup is so young

7 weeks is wayyyyy toooo young to be away from Mom, that pup is not even a barely a half pound. Did you get him from a breeder?

You have a lot to learn here SuperMom!!! Congrats on expecting and the new pup.

First off I hope you get that baby into the VET for a well checkup quickly. You should not leave that pup for any extended amount of time at all until he is about 12 weeks old. Many things can go wrong and these little tiny too young Yorkies can go downhill quickly, very quickly.

For now, offer plenty of food and MAKE SURE he eats and drinks. Keep some Nutracal on hand. If your pup gets ill at all, get him to a vet asap.

Now if everything goes smooth just enjoy him but keep your eyes and ears open at all times!!!

Can I give Nutrical as a daily supplement or should I just keep it on hand in case of hypoglycemia?

Thank you so much! I do agree that he is so young. When we got him over the weekend we were told he was 10-11 weeks and not being yorkie owners before I didn't really know size comparison. When we got home I looked at his papers and did the math from his birthday I realized that only makes him 7 weeks =( I guess that's why I'm trying to be SO careful. Trying to make sure he eats and drinks all the time and has enough rest and is not to over stimulated when I am handling him. I took him to the vet today actually and according to papers he went to a vet last week too. I just wanted to make sure he was ok. So far so good.

Welcome to YT! I know you supervise your skin kids now, but make sure you supervise them even more with your new fur baby! Make clear rules for them when they play with the puppy, and be consistent! Bringing up a pup with young kids is a challenge, but it can be done. Just takes LOTS of work on your part. :) as you already know! Post some pictures when you can!

Oh absolutely. They're only to handle the puppy with my supervision and even then it's just sitting and holding him usually when he naps. :) I know it'll be a challenge but it'll be so worth it :)

congrats and welcome to YT! Make sure you keep that little boy safe from germs, try not to take him out places until he has had a few rounds of vaccines. These young ones have low immune systems. I see people trying to pass off puppies who are way too young as older all the time, at least he is in a good place now!

I would give the Nutrical if your pup is not eating much too stimulate appetite also after he/she has played. You wouldn't want blood sugar to drop. :) I've known some who give it on a daily basis with pups that are the same age as yours until they have somewhat of a "set"eating routine or are a little older. If you've ever seen a diabetic have low blood sugar(woozy/wobbly/can't focus) these are some of the same symptoms that can happen if your pups sugar gets too low. You can put a tiny bit on your finger and let your pup lick it off or rub it on his/her gums.

Congrats on your new furbaby!!

The NutriCal/Kayro syrup is for emergencies when and if your pup experiences a drop in sugar. I wouldn't use it as a daily supplement and you need to be getting food into your pup very soon after giving the NutriCal/Kayro.

What you want to look for is if your pup becomes very quiet without needing a nap. If you are making sure you are feeding your pup 4 - 5 times each day, you should be ok. When we brought our pup (Princess Sophie) home, I had to resort to hand feeding her and using a dropper to get water into her regularly, for a long while, because she was too young to come to her forever home too.

Don't be scared but don't let your pup out of your sight either. She needs full time care right now. Good luck, I know you can do this because I did and our Sophie is strong and healthy at almost 9 months of age and 5 lbs.
