Colby will not stop biting and peeing! Good afternoon YT!! Its me again with my little Colby :) He is now7 months old and is still "mouthin" so to speak? I am getting very concerned with it because he is biting my children and sometimes myself during play, in the morning. He also pees EVERY time we let him out of his room! I understand he gets excited but is there something I can do for this? My boyfriend is kind of at wits end with the biting and peeing (not to mention finding a doggie sitter) and wants to sell him. I don't want to get rid of him I feel like I just got him! :( |
He is still such a little one. He can't be expected to hold his pee as long as an older pup. I don't have any advice but I am going to "bump" this so others can help. |
Bump.... The biting should be stropped immediately....say no bite, redirect his mouth to a toy instead of your fingers. Give a treat if he takes his mouth off when you say it. Say it firmly. Luma knows to immediately take her mouth off my fingers and I no longer have to say no bite. Hopefully someone with a male dog will come with advice on pottying...from what I've read girls are easier than bots and my two girls do amazingly, I refused to get a boy because of the potty and marking issues. Good luck and please don't give up on him! |
What measures are you taking to teach him better bathroom habits. My Teegy was completely toilet trained within the first year and wouldn't think of peeing in the house. Tufty on the other hand doesn't seem to have the control of his bladder that Teegy has. I have ended up resorting to keeping washable pee pads and leaving one out each day for him to go on. I'm fine with that. Try to encourage him to go to the door when he needs to go, reward him for asking, reward him outside when he does and if you need to have pee pads be sure to reward when you see him use that. Sounds like he's teething and needs to chew on something. You could soak a toy and freeze it and let him chew on it, it would help numb his gums. I like nylabone toys for teething, if he starts to chew encourage him onto a chew toy. It takes persistence and a lot of patience. Please do correct his behaviour firmly when he tries to chew on the kids |
Has he been neutered yet? How big/small is he? I know some dogs pee out of pure excitement. That's something that can't be helped though... My niece's dog pees sometimes when she gets excited and she's fully potty trained. As Teegy mentioned, have you tried pee pads? I used to leave few in each room during training. Not sure what you've tried so hard to suggest much... As for mouthing... Magnus had a really bad habit and I found a method online which I used until I mentioned it on this site and was told it was a... "bad" method so I stopped. After that, whenever Magnus/Zoey started mouthing, I'd scream: OUCH!!!!!!! I'm pretty sure that did the trick b/c after few times of that, the mouthing completely stopped. Someone else suggested spritzing water? I hope you find something that works. It can be frustrating but it's really worth it. Just be patient... |
