Having a hard time... I got my female yorkie Lexi in April at 6 weeks old. She is still not potty trained and it drives me nuts. She is trained to go outside, and she goes but some times she likes to be a bone head and comes in from outside, and pees on the floor. I DON'T KNOW WHY. I'm getting so frustrated. She needs to be potty trained before I move into my apartment in SEPTEMBER because it has carpet. Right now our schedual is like this. I put her to bed at 11 She wakes up at 2 to pee I put her back in her crate We wake up at 7, she goes outside Eats and plays Goes in her crate at 8:30 I get back from work at 12 so I put her outside And she eats and plays til 1 I get home from work at 4:30 and she goes outside again The rest of the night is free time. Can someone help me improvise or fix our schedual? I need tips and advice. |
So the accidents are happening in the evening hours? Is she leashed when you go out? This made a big difference with Barney. He knows that there will be no play until the deed is done. If I take Barney out at about normal time for him to pee and nothing happens, I put him in his play pen and then try again about 10 minutes later. When we were first training, he went back in the pen a lot. After a few days, he got the idea. |
I really think the only thing is to be on top of the situation during that "free time" in the evenings. I am not one to give advice because I thought I had all the answers before I got Mandie. I had never had a hard time potty training. Mandie still is not completely trained. She goes outside and on potty pads, but she poops by the door and I have caught her more than once peeing ON the carpet (hence the reason I am pulling that carpet up for now). What I have learned from this is that it takes time. With all of my past dogs, I was there 24/7...I didn't work during the time they were first being potty trained. That is the difference. I've worked since I've gotten Mandie. It's not her fault..it's completely mine. I know that so I "get it". |
During your "free time" I would suggest taking her out every hour and praising her when she potties outside. |
