Welcome to YT & Congrats!

This is a great resource for information on your baby - especially a tiny one.

If he's not eating his food, an old breeder's trick is to mix in some Cesars with the good stuff. Moisten the kibble with warm water though so that your puppy doesn't just lick off the Cesars.

Good luck.

Yes, I am very happy to have found this site! Thank you for this idea! I don't have Cheerios right now, but I thought about what else I could use for motivation and I thought maybe very small pieces of apple... I've been using that since yesterday and it has helped a little! I was happy to see that the apple pieces gave him a bigger desire to eat! Thank you!

When do you go to the vet? It needs to be soon. Make sure all shots are given before having around any other animals.

On the Nutrical...don't give it just to give it. As I said, that can lead to sugar spikes and drops. But I would give a little taste after a lot of play. Other than that...just have for rescue if symptoms occur. The IMPORTANT thing to remember is to give food a little bit after the nutrical when rescuing or you will just have the levels drop again in a couple of hours. Nautical to rescue...follow with food to sustain.

Attention is all I give him lol. Matter of fact I think I'm driving my husband crazy because I'm constantly after king, doing this, doing that, giving him this, and ask him questions. He'll learn to get over it lol.

I'm with him all the time. If I happen to leave my home to run an errand I make sure to be back at least within 4 hours so that i can feed him, and since he is still a baby I (and sleeps all the time) I make sure to leave when he is sleeping, by the time I get home its about time he wakes up. Normally, I don't leave my house though. I just moved to Ca from Texas and I don't really know to many people here and the place itself is just not to attracting lol there's not much to do so I'm always here.

Vet visit is tomorrow and he is my only pup right now.

On the nutracal- thank you for clearing that up, I actually talked to my moms friend yesterday (she gave me the dog) and she recommended I give it to him in the morning and at night, but I'll make sure to be giving it to him when needed!

As recommended above, when you do have use the supplement, always follow up with a little food.

Enticing to eat is sort of like enticing to play. Use an happy, exciting voice, and give praise. Present a piece of food like it is the best prize in the world.

I also agree with seeing the vet and supervising your little one closely.

Thank you all for these words of wisdom, they are very helpful! I've been cheering him on when he does great with his food, also before I give him the food I kind of tease him with it (I know that's probably mean) I let him smell it a couple times... I feel like that makes him want it more? As soon as he gets his mouth on it he's eating!

Welcome to YT and grats on your new baby! Their so cute at that age!

At 3 mo., mine was 1 lb. She's 1 yr. and 2 mo. now, and weighs 2.7/ 2.8 lbs. I put mine on Nutra drops, which another YT member suggested. The drops help increase their appetite. Nutri cal is good for low BS episodes. Lots of vitamins in it to help bring their BS level back up. Mine hated that! I used clear karo syrup when she had low BS, followed with a bit of food and water. This link is to show what Nutra drops are incase you are interested in them.- I see a few on Amazon.
Amazon.com: Health Extension 858755000758 Nutra Drops, 8-Ounce: Pet Supplies

A neighbor had to come and give her a meal during the day while I worked until she hit 2 lbs. If she missed 2 meals, she'd end up with low BS. And she was/ is a very picky eater. I didn't want to switch her food at 3 months, but it wasn't doing me any good to have it just sit there untouched. Switching it caused some belly upsets, but we finally found some foods she likes. I used the list in health and diet to email companies for free food samples before I bought a huge bag that lasts forever.

Keep doing what your doing. You seem to be watching King well. Remember to ask the vet all these questions too. They should have suggests to help you with him. Let us know how his visit goes tomorrow! And if you have other questions, ask!

You have a small one as well! How's her health if you don't mind me asking? Do you know how big her mom and dad were each? Do you remember what brand of food you were giving her at that age (3months)? What was her behavior like? Sorry so many questions.

Thank you soo much for that info on the dog food companies!!! I will be sending them an email!!!

I feel the same way as you once did about changing her food at 3 months!! I know he's probably hungry and just won't eat because he doesn't like the food..knowing that and seeing that he won't touch his food, I feel like I have to try other things even though there's a risk of his stomach getting upset. My thing is that he just needs to eat.

Sounds like you are on top of things so don't worry yourself to death ok? :)

Let us know how the vet visit goes!

LOL! Tons of questions!

At 3 months I was still trying to find food she liked. The vet put her on Prescription Diet A/D. We hand fed that if she skipped a meal ( with a drop of karo syrup mixed in. I add a little clear karo syrup to her water every day, just incase. 1 teaspoon to a full bowl of water. We also used Nutra drops to help her with her appetite. Yorkiemom1 suggested them to me, she helped me A LOT when mine wasn't eating well. Try what others suggest too. All puppies are different. You never know what will work for yours.

We ended up with Holistic Tiny Bites and Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul for dry kibble (ground in a coffee grinder when she was small), with Merricks wet food on top- currently, she likes the chicken and turkey flavors. Merrick Puppy Plate was a fav of hers, I still let her have it. :)

We went through so many samples. Any sample sized bag or can that I saw at the local pet shop, and was mentioned on YT, I'd try. And I tried the samples from the list here on YT. The neighbors dog got a lot of the food that mine didn't like. She also likes boiled chicken, string cheese, bacon, peanut butter, cauliflower-lol- apples, nectarines, vanilla ice cream, and watermelon. She doesn't get a lot of the people treats, just a few bites here and there.

Her health is good. She likes to run a lot, climb rocks around my trees, chase moths, bugs, and birds, go for walks, and beat up her squeaky mice. She hides the mice from me now and tries to help me find them! LOL! She was spayed this summer and did very well with it. Her parents were 5 lbs- mom and 4 lbs dad. The breeder said by her weight at 9 weeks she would be smaller- 3.5 to 4 lbs. She was the runt of her litter, and sort of stopped growing when she hit 10 months.

She had regular puppy behavior, lots of biting at me instead of her toys. When she did that, I froze so I was less interesting than her toy. She still does this, but it's when she wants to eat. Lots of energy! She loves to play fetch, wrestle her barking bag, and beat up her mice. She loves to be outside! She loves people- big and small, old and young. She likes the neighbors dog, but hates the cat. She does tricks, only when she wants to. Very suborn! We had to use toys and lots of praise since she didn't care about food.

Being small, we've had problems with low blood sugar. I've learned not to let her go long without food. A neighbor came to feed her when I worked, until she was 2 lbs. After that, she could eat 3 times a day instead of 4. She won't eat still unless I'm with her. She waits till I'm home to eat, but her dry food is out all day for her to eat if she decides she's hungry.

If you have other questions, you can PM me. :)

Hi welcome. Fredericka is 1.5 pounds and she is now 5 months old. She didn't want to eat very much. She became hypoglycemic at times. Gave Karo syrup. I got her when she was 9 weeks old and weight barely 1pound.. Just recently had her bike acid check and it was high.. Confirmed with ultrasound today for liver shunt. Not to scare u but u can talk to you vet about a low protein diet. Just in case he has one. Good luck:-)

I'm sorry to hear that. How does the liver shunt affect Fredericka? And how is it treated? My vet appointment it tomorrow (Wednesday). I'm praying everything is good so far... Will def make sure to ask about this.

How did you little guy do at the vet? Keep in mind that his little tummy is probably the size of a pea. While he may eat a lot at one feeding, he may not the next. The nutrical is a good thing to have on hand. I would definitely have food available for him at all times. It sounds as though you are on top of things with him.

Good luck and let us know how he's doing.
