Puppy weird behavior?
 

Why does my 4 month old puppy humps his bed like a maniac? :confused: I already took one bed away and I gave him a low one (crate mat) now he's humping this one as well for the past 20 minutes. I took it away and he cried. The weird thing is that he bites it, and stays still with it in his mouth, and starts to fall asleep. I just touched it and it was so wet with saliva ewww. I am thinking he's teething and this feels good in his mouth? His eyes are watery and his beard too from all the saliva? He humps humps and stays still, humps humps stay still ... So weird!

I would honestly correct that behavior. My 6 year old neutered male tried to hump the blanket the other night and I put a stop to it real quick. My friend’s yorkie/pom allows her dog to hump Peanut all the time, it drives me crazy to the point where if she doesn't correct him we don’t hang out with the dogs. I tell her over and over to stop him and she will just push him off.. Uh no. I will not allow that so if I see it I will correct him, and he will listen. I don't know why people allow their dogs to do that behavior. Anyways.. I would stop him, if he is teething give him something to chew on.

If he's only doing it to the bed and he's happy while teething..I'd let him be. With that said, I've never had one do this so I speak from what I think I'd do..not experience.

I feel bad taking away his beds lol ...

Something to try with the teething. I have the white Nylabones. I stick them on the freezer. Galen loved the way it felt on his gums

From what I have seen, if you allow them do to it- they will do it. If you teach them it is wrong, you won’t have to deal with a humper. Out of nowhere Peanut started humping. He was digging in the bed like he does and it seems he was trying to push the blankets under him, so I took my hand under and made like a tent- well he grabbed on and started humping. I was shocked at first, he has never done that. DH then told me “ He does it for dominance issue” I said well I don’t want him thinking he is dominant over me anyway so I stopped him in the middle of it- he looked at me with that look, Haha I just told him no… well a couple nights later he started it again, I stopped him before he got to that point. Then again he tried another night and I stopped him. I just kept stopping him from doing it, Yes he gave me that look like I was the meanest Mommy..

Well last night he started to dig, I knew what he was going to do but I know he loves to dig. So I was waiting once he started pulling the blanket up I told him “No”. He stopped digging and laid down.

So my point to the story is… if you correct them they will stop. Like I said my friends dog humps Peanut when they are together, and she told me she use to let him hump his toy. Well now look at him, she can’t control it now. She has a dog that humps his friend when they are together, he doesn’t stop, when we are walking he tries to hump, in the car he tries to hump. He will even hump the air when you pull him off… to me why would we not correct that behavior?

I personally would not want my dog to have that behavior period. I don’t think there is a need for it. .. I do think in the end it will teach them it is ok, and it will be harder to stop as they get older.

LOL Don’t feel bad for taking something away. What you can do besides take it away is correct him on the spot.

Well I took his bed away for awhile until he calms down ... I will definitely stop this behavior from now on :)
