Puppy cut So I took Martini in for his first haircut on Friday and was so excited to pick him up, but the poor guy got shaved! He is only 5 months old and doesnt like to wear a top knot so I asked her to leave him a visor. My dd went with me and there was a lady that came in right behind us with a full grown yorkie. When I brought our little guy home, my daughter burst out laughing and said," mom, can you imagine what that other yorkie looks like!" I know it will grow out and he is enjoying the coolness of his cut, but my husband didn't even recognize him and thought he was the neighbors dog! |

Oh no :( that is what I'm afraid of. I need to bring my little girl for her first cut. I want the puppy cut as well but trying to grow hair out for her top knot :). |

You must always be very very clear with your groomer. Just saying "puppy cut" won't work. I tell my groomer the length I want and actually show her (using my fingers) how much I want off. I keep Lucy's hair longer & straight but it doesn't hit the floor. I'm very specific. So far, that's worked. |
I think he looks very cute, even tho you didn't get what you would've liked. Luvlee is right you gotta be specific & pictures are best. |
That happened to us with Rhett's first haircut. I actually cried in the parking lot. Because people have different ways of describing things, I've found that taking pictures to show the groomer gets us the best results. Martini is still adorable, though. |
I don't think he looks that different. It can be a big shock when a puppy gets there first really big hair cut where they shave them in fact I haven't heard of a person who wasn't shocked yet but its just because all the pain in the butt fluffy easily matting puppy hair is gone. |
When mine goes in this month for her first cut I am definitely taking all of your advice with bringing a picture!! :) |
Thanks, we are going to try a different groomer next time. Living in a rural farm area, we have limited access to groomers and this lady comes to the vet clinic. Unfortunately, you just drop off the dog between a time and you don't actually talk to the groomer. I did tell the receptionist what I wanted but it either didn't get relayed or she just did what she thought best. Live and learn! |
I took a picture with me and I wrote below: "DO NOT SHAVE THANKS" ... Lol you have to be really specific with groomers. :) |
I make a specific list of what I want done from head, topknot, ears cropped, ear hair removal etc. and also show them a picture. That has helped greatly. I keep my Zoe short in the summer it's hot and it rains a lot so keeping her shorter helps.:aimeeyork |
Aww, I think he's so cute. |
That's the cut Kaji has! I specifically asked for shaved because it's hot and his hair is super thick. I don't want him to overheat. I'm sorry you got the shaved look. TAKE PICTURES!!!!! Give them to your groomer and make sure the groomer takes notes. It's the only way to make sure they know what you want. Once you're a regular, they know what you mean by bunny tail, and leave the topknot, or leave a pee string. |
