"Tea cup" Yorkie Puppy mill Any one know of a good coalition/institution that can help shut a puppy mill broker down? There is a store here in Texas advertising "teacup Yorkies" Give me your thoughts. |
The Animal Control locally could probably help. If you suspect you know of a mill, I'm sure they could tell you how to report a complaint and request an investigation of the business or home where you suspect or know dogs are being abused/neglected. If the dogs are very bad off, please call now and tell them of the urgent nature of the dogs' plight, what you've seen, etc., and make it clear lives are in the balance, no time to lose. |

The puppies are extremely well groomed for sale, but I've treated several for ear-mites and other immune deficiencies mostly due to irresponsible breeding. |
Even if the puppies you've seen aren't very ill, if you suspect a mill, I would report it so that the authorities can check out the situation. |
animal control I recently reported what I think is a puppy mill in Texas also(must be something in the water). I first called the Humane Society who then directed me to the local police who got in touch with the county's animal control. It took 2 weeks for the Humane Society to get in touch with me  so I would contact animal control and bypass the middle man to get things rolling and this place shut down if they are abusing/neglecting any animals. |
I have, they won't do anything unless I can prove they are breaking a law. Makes me sick every time I get a new patient from their "lines" |
The ASPCA recently launched a tool that allows consumers to link pet stores that sell puppy mill puppies. ASPCA Launches Consumer Tool Linking Puppies Sold in Pet Stores with Licensed Inhumane Breeders Here's the direct link to add to their database: Create Stores that sell puppies | Nopetstorepuppies.com It won't shut them down, but it's a start. |

Heck she sells puppies for $65,000.00 |
Teresiana, thank you VERY much! This will help. TxVicki, yes, you are correct. It's disgusting! I've had patients with all sorts of "bad breeding" issues. They are always very well groomed, and I think this is the only reason she is still in business. The whole teacup thing brings a knot to my stomach. |
It is so good to hear a good vets opinion on this. We have a wonderful vet here but in the past we went to one who referred to our pups as teacup. We didn't go back. |

I have two college degrees, of of which is in Veterinaty Sciences from Brazil, where I'm originally from. The closest equivalent to it here in US would be a mix of vet tech and zoology. Since Brazil is huge in large animals, I decided to come to the US 10 years ago to study more and do research with a few institutes. I've just recently started writing articles (since English isn't my first language it wasn't the easiest task for me), but you can read some on my Academia.edu page. Feel free to ask any questions! God Bless, |
