What do you feed your yorkies? When I got Billi, her breeder suggested I feed her Puppy Chow. Knowing that's not good food for her, I talked to my vet and we switched her to Royal Canine after a couple of weeks. She's been on it ever since (she's almost 5 months now) and now I'm finding some alarming articles and information about the stuff. Feather meal? Worm fillers? Thank you for the RC thread with this information, btw! So now I'm really considering switching her food again, but oh my goodness, it's overwhelming what's out there and whether the stuff's actually good for your dog or not! Which has me curious what you're all feeding your babies now. I know there's some threads from a year or so ago, but I want to know what you're using today & why? |
If she's doing well on the RC, why switch...the feather meal is for the new Anallergic formula...not even sure if it's out on the market yet. Just pay close attention to the ingredients & you should be fine. Just FYI, you can switch to an adult or all stages formula when she gets older. |
Both my Yorkies are raw fed, but if that's not the route you wish to take there are some grain free options out there worth a look. Acana Orijen Go Fromm Proformatrin Holistic Blend That I know of |

As to your suggestion, Teegy... I've actually only started hearing about "raw feeding" the last day or so & am interested! At least I'm in total control of what she's eating! Thank you for your suggestions :) |
We feed Fromm :) |
RC is a great food and a company with a safe history. The anallegenic is on the market, has been for a while, and is being used in dogs where other foods have failed. I would feed anything to my dog that would keep her well. Don't let the hype of a few get you down on a food that is working for your dog. My boys eat RC - they are beautiful and happy, and have perfect blood panels. |
I feed mine Orijen Puppy. He does really really well on it. Good stools, beautiful coat, lots of energy, no tummy troubles and my picky eater loves it. I know many will say that it's very high in protein but he doesnt eat much. Other good foods are Acana and Fromm. |
I feed Nutrisca by Dogwell. It has grain free, potato free and different choices of proteins. It also comes in canned, freeze dried & dry kibble. It has a 5 star rating from the Dog Adviser Review. Some are not comfortable with it being a new and small company but it has no recalls as of yet. Best of luck in your search as there are many wonderful foods out there! :) |
Thank you for the great suggestions! I'll check them all out! :p |
i feed Lex Weruva grain free canned mixed with Holistic dry kibble and grilled plain organic chicken. She has great digestion, energy & very shiny coat. |
Feed Blue Buffalo...did the puppy and now the small breed. Works for us. :) |
Mine is on RC but now refuses to eat it which is probably a good thing with all the bad things I am hearing! I am thinking of switching her to Canine Caviar :). |

I feed raw, which is great for us. Kaitlyn, how long has Izzy been refusing to eat? |
