Yorkie ears to stand up Hi i just recently adopted a 10 month old yorkie. When i got her, she doesn't seen to be well taken care of by her previous owner. Her ears were all floppy due to huge amount of hairs. after taking her to grooming, even the groomer wasn't able to shave her ears. She gets scared so easily. i don't think she even went to a groomer before since her nails were super long, ear hair were not plucked and super dirty teeth. So today, i finally manage to cut all the hair off her ears with a scissor. i am wondering if its too late to tape her ears to get them to stand up ? I know taping is usually done when they are a puppy, but have anyone try taping a older Yorkie ear and did it work? Also she have very dirty teeth, how do you guys clean your Yorkie's teeth beside brushing. This my first time having a dog, so i will be kinda of nervous to brush her teeth. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Congratulations on the new addition to your life. Be very careful with scissors around the ears. The risk of cutting the ears is very high, and a cut can result in loss of the ear flap. I would work on acclimating her to a mustache trimmer. Ten months is too late to tape ears. There are many adorable Yorkies here with floppy ears. The only solution for dirty teeth is a dental cleaning by a vet. If the teeth are dirty, there is probably more going on below the gumline. The only way to take care of that is cleaning under anesthesia. Unfortunately, they are not any miracle products. Once the teeth are clean, you can brush to help maintain them. |
Hello! I'm stopping in to welcome you to YT! Grats on getting your new furbaby! I can't remember the age that is suggested for taping ears. 4 to 6 months? Maximo knows better than I do about that. I hope you find time to read the threads here, and get to know all of us! Post some pictures of your new one when you can! |
Congratulations on your new addition and Welcome to YT! Years ago, I actually taped one at 10 months old, and they came up and stayed up. Probably just lucky, but I would try it. When you can, try to shave the ear to remove the excess hair will also help. I use a mustache groomer with the teeth very close together. I agree that you should get her teeth cleaned by a Vet, she probably has extra baby teeth anyway that can be removed at the same time. Also a good time to spay, if your Vet does dentals at the same time as spay. Two of my Vets does, and one doesn't. |
She gets scared by the sound Of the shavers. It seems pretty impossible, when i took her to grooming, the groomer actually cut her ears with the shaver cuz she moves so much :( I want to get her spay but she is in heat right now, i think i need to wait until after she is done to spay her. Thank you guys for welcoming me ;) |
Welcome to YT. congrats on your new addition |
