Vet or Groomer, Anal Glands? Do you allow your groomer to do your pups glands? |
dog When I put my Yorkies in the tub for a bath I just pop those glands myself. It is very easy to do. Just be ready cuz it really stinks. Never pinch too hard. You can feel if they are full and just lightly squeeze and tada-out comes the stink! |
Anal glands have been a huge issue for Puff-in May they were surgically removed. I've learned a lot about them and will never let anyone but our vet touch our other dogs. |
Yes, but my groomer only does it in combination with a bath. I prefer having it done at the vet as it is more thorough. |
Callie starts the boot scoot and boggie around the time almost every time it is time to go to the groomer so I let them do it but its at the vets office and I think the vet tech does it. |
None of mine have ever needed expressing by a vet or groomer. |

:D Yep, Harry's groomer does it...but again, while he's in the bath...and while he's having his massage.... :D Sally + Harry x |
Sprout's 14 years old, Bella is almost 2 and Gypsy is only 2.5 months...none of them have ever had their anal glands expressed. Gypsy's too young to know yet, but the vet said that Sprout and Bella empty theirs when they poop, which is what you want. Bella is still quite young and she may need it further down the road, but Sprout just keeps emptying them as he poos. |
Mine don't have a problem with Anal Glands. It is written in my file at the grooming that Anal Glands are off limits. If there isn't a problem there is no need to express. At times expressing when no problem, it could cause a problem. IF they did have problmes I would take them to the Vet. |
vet only for mine.... |
Recently a friend of mine started a part time job bathing dogs for a groomer. She told me the groomer was showing her how to expess glands and that she was "practicing" on some of the dogs that came in to be groomed. I never said anything to her but thought to myself I wonder if the people that are getting their dogs groomed know their dogs are being used as "practice dummies" . She said she was having trouble doing them and the groomer usually had to do them over for her. I always use the vet. |

Our groomer does it. Years ago when we first got Charlie, we didn\'t realize that glands had to be drained. One day when he was still a pretty young puppy, my husband and I kept accusing each other of smelling bad. We finally realized it was Charlie. When my groomer told me about draining his glands I nearly died on the spot. He had to have it done often. Up to that point, I thought his scooting was a cute little quirky behavior. Yes, I know, I am not the brightest bulb on the tree. So far, we have not noticed any odors or scooting from Barney and Anna. I told my groomer to only do it if she feels it\'s necessary. |
My Yorkie, Sammy never had a problem with that. My beagle, Benji did. I would only let the vet express them. Not that I didn\'t trust my groomer, but I think certain things should be handled by the vet. |
I never wanted Lexi\'s done unless she had a problem. But, the last time she was groomed I forgot to tell the groomer. It clearly bothered her because for the first couple of days she kept sitting down, even on the tile. She NEVER sits on anything but carpet. I was kicking myself for weeks. Her buns are always fresh. And, yes, I check to see if there\'s a smell oozing them regularly.:eek: |
