aggressive little fellow I got a male (Has been fixed) about 2 mos. ago . He is 8Mos.old He came from a from uncaring people. He just HATES cats. He is so hard headed and mean..... I don't know what to do to help him. |
HA, ALL the Yorkies I've owned have hated Cats :D And, the best Alpha Males I've had, were stubborn and aggressive when they were Puppies. I'm dealing with the same situation as we speak (Ichabod). Just be patient and consistent with him, and he'll probably work out as the best little Friend and Protector you'd ever want. ;) |
PS: What do you mean by "mean" ? |
My 8 month old female yorkie likes my female cat quick well and plays with her, but can get oddly territorial with my male cat. Barks at him when he scratches my couch, barks at him when he gets too close to her food, when he's cuddling me she gets jealous and wants to cuddle too. She doesn't do any of these with my female cat. It's quite odd. |
what is your new male doing that's mean? Stubborness is a yorkie, in my opinion! Mine knows tricks, but refuses to do them when I want to show anyone what she's learned. She gives me a look like she's saying "Really? I don't have to show anyone what I can do unless I want to do it for them!" When they leave the area, she'll do it for me-LOL! |

morgan's motivation is his yorkie yummies |
take your pup to training class, you'd be surprised how much a little basic obedience can change their behavior. I taught my dog a "leave it" command when he would start following my family's cat. Don't let that sweet face fool you, they need rules and structure just like any dog. |
well my older yorkies ignore the cat COMPLETELY lol my newest addition who is 6 mo..plays with the cat all the time and until the cat decides she is done playing and puts her paw down =)..i usually hear a squeak from the puppy around that time. |
Most of the cats I have had put the puppies in their place really quickly. In my house, cats rule, dogs drool. The oldest cat is 1/4 bobcat, and three times bigger than the dogs, and she will smack them good if they get out of line. The rest of the cats ignore the dogs, and the cats have a dog free room they can go to, that's barricaded, so they can jump over if the dogs are being obnoxious. |
It just takes time, patience, persistence, and plenty of training. If you find it too difficult to train him yourself, there are plenty of places that have dog training, just google dog training in your area. Good luck!:) |
All of my yorkies chase the cats but they don't actually want to hurt the cats. They think it is a fun game. My cats are both bigger than the yorkies. Both of the cats will smack the dogs when they have had enough. Lucy loves to hump Tallulah esp. on the stairs- Go figure- If Tallulah (16 pounds) to Lucy's 7 pounds doesn't care- Who am I to judge. I do have baby gates set up to give the cats dog free areas- Where their food and litter is primarily. |
