Booty Pictures Please 1 Attachment(s) Hello, We are very fortunate with Bella and Sprout in that their bottom fur is pretty much non-existent. I used to trim Bella's but there isn't much back there to trim, and Sprout has never had much booty fur...so no poo issues. The only issue Bella had was running off the pad before the poo fell out, and she's over that. Well, we have Gypsy now who is a huge critter (from the movie Critters)...only a heck of a lot cuter. Anyway, I would appreciate some pictures of your Yorkies booties, please. I'm not looking for cute pictures of tails, etc...what I'm wanting are pictures of trimmed bottoms near the anus, under the tail. I didn't want to post this for fear of "offending" someone but I'm over that. If you read the post for what it is, you shouldn't be offended. How do you trim their booties without making their hair look unattractive near the rear? Do you use clippers? How far 'down' and out on either side of the anus do you have to clip? I'm a visual learner, so explaining something to me pretty much goes in 1 ear and out the other (sorry). Your pups might be a bit embarassed to have their booties photographed, but it would be a tremendous help to me if I could have some sort of idea before I bring the clippers out and make Gypsy look like this: |
Gypsy is napping (gosh she sleeps a lot). Anyway...she had a bath and a blow dry last night, is that good enough for a pre-bath before a trim or do I really have to give her another one? She doesn't seem to mind them but I'd rather go easy on her skin if it's not necessary a second time. Do you let them eat treats while you clip so they more tolerant of the clipping? What do you do if you mess up and have a chunk of hair clipped that shouldn't have been? Leave it be and let it grow out or do you make the other side look the same? I cleaned out all the hair on the pads of her feet last night, and attempted to clip her nails but she was too squirmy so I stopped...will take her to the vet to do that. I plucked all the hair out of her inner ears (she didn't even flinch) it didn't bother her. Sooooo...apart from her butt, she's all cleaned up. |
1 Attachment(s) I don't have close up pictures, but I use scissors to trim only around the anus, about the size of a dime. Anyone using scissors in this area should be very, very careful. A cut to the anus can cause profuse bleeding, as one groomer here cautioned. My boys are in full coat, so you can't see anything unless you lift their tails and look closely. Attachment 389219 |

Hi Maximo. They're adorable, firstly. :) Gypsy isn't a purebred Yorkie. Well..at least I don't think she is. She was given the breed of "Yorkshire Terrier mix" when she was assessed. Yours look like they have full hair surrounding their tails (but it's hard to see)...so you said you only trim around the anus ..a dime size circle around. Well, I won't go near her with scissors, the very thought makes me cringe and feel ill...she's just a baby and she's not learned "Still" yet, and she's beyond squirmy. So far what I've been doing is bathing only her bottom every time she poops, because she gets poopy stuck around her anus...in the hairs - I'm afraid it will clog her opening and she won't be able to poop (much like "pasty butt" in baby chicks). So...I figured it was time for a trim I just don't know how to go about doing that and have zero chance of hurting her. I'd like to use the trimmers since I can go along her skin and not hurt her (I did her ears the other day)...but I don't know how to do that without taking off way too much hair since the trimmer is a bit wide. ...I was actually thinking about stealing my husband's mustache trimmer (it looks like a hair trimmer but it's very narrow). O_O I made the suggestion to him last night and his response is something I am not allowed to say in a public forum. Suffice it to say he said no way. Could I simply buy another mustache trimmer for her booty? (they're cheap) |

Teddy had a little bit of a problem when he was younger and a nervous pooper. He would stand up too quickly sometimes and I had to help him. |

I think you are right not to risk scissors on a squirmy dog. A mustache trimmer should work. I would buy one devoted to doggy rear ends only. LOL, your husband. I don't blame him. It is good that you are cleaning her rear end daily. I check daily to make sure nothing is left behind. We use a wet cotton ball when Teddy has a little junk to be cleaned. |
Baby wipes might be a great thing to have on standby. |

I was all excited - I thought you were looking for cute yorkie-butt pics :D! Btw, I don't trim my 3 at all, and they rarely have any problems...have you already tried leaving it natural? |
We use baby wipes every time for our bella work great ! |
1 Attachment(s) I don't trim my 3 either. Thankfully, their poo is nice & firm. I haven't had a problem. It is an issue with the occasional soft poo :( But that rarely happens. I have to attach my favorite butt shot. You gave me a good excuse :D |
My boys get shaved all over including the butt! I never had problems too often when they were not trimmed though. I don't have a pic on this computer though! |

@ grooming school, my instructor called the area under the anus, "the runway". You are NOT to shave the runway, otherwise you'll end up w/a baboon butt just like the pic lolll! I really like the tiny clippers like tid bit or peanut, it's great for trimming the hairs under the paws, around the paws, tipping ears & sanitary trims. I personally use the Wahl Arco rechargeable clippers, it's great for everything, very handy to have & super quiet. I only trim the hairs around the anus, that's where the poopies tend to hang onto if it gets too long. Like others have mentioned, my guys have firm poopies too, so we don't get dingle berries hanging from their bum too often. Quote:

^^Thank you Jenny! My messy boys had their tails forward because they were stalking some sort of prey in the yard. :D |

2 Attachment(s) Here's Lexie's bootie! I keep her tail short--it's such a cute lil nub.:p She just went to the groomer yesterday, so you can see the way she has her privates trimmed. I believe she is scissored in that area carefully. It's challenging cuz of her curls. But her butt stays clean except for the rare dingleberry or soft poo. Babywipes are great. :) |

What Beautiful coats they have. |
I don't do anything to Jasper's. When I brush him, which is 3-4 times a day, I make sure its parted in the middle. So, have half the hair goes behind the left leg and the other half goes behind the right. Thank goodness his natural pooping area has no issues and doesn't need trimming or anything. :) |

Thank you for the responses thus far, and thank you for the pics! Lap's helps because it sort of looks like I might imagine Maximo's description, even though I'm horrible at doing things in my head. :) ...I wouldn't have gotten caught, but my hubby is very particular about where he puts all his stuff and he would have said "did you move my mustache trimmer?" and that's when I would have said "yes" and he would have said "why?" and I would have said "to shave Gypsy's butt". -_- |
