Ebay Classified Puppies I am disgusted and I don't think there's anything I can do about it. There are people selling Yorkie puppies that are only 6 and 7 weeks old on Ebay classifieds - they are allowed to on the Classifieds section. There are also senior Yorkies in the classified section, young adults and adults. Is there really nothing we can do about this? This is just an example: 7weeks old and ready for u..2 male yorkie pups | Kansas City | eBay Classifieds (Kijiji) | 28288374 There are literally hundreds more. ...hundreds.... I was told to check there for Yorkie printed fabric and items with Yorkies painted on them, and Etsy. Well...I was stupified to find these babies there. |
And this one is looking to TRADE a puppy for another puppy: Wanting to trade my yorkie pup for a chocolate puppy | Kansas City | eBay Classifieds (Kijiji) | 28171389 |
That's so concerning. Those poor babies are way to young to be away from their mommies :( 6-7 weeks is just ridiculous! I've also seen a whole bunch of threads lately from people who have just gotten their pups at 9 weeks old. There's no law that says you have to wait a certain number of weeks until you take it away from its mommy. So sad. |
I am not sure which state they are from but if they are in KC Mo, they are violating the law. No puppies can be sold under 8 weeks of age. |

It is sad and concerning. I am one of those that got my pup at 8 weeks old because I was not educated. Even if it were a law there are people that would break that law as people break laws every second of everyday on so many different levels. Educating those that do care is the answer but how to reach everyone is the question. I learn something every time I sign on to this site and am so glad I found it. I was on pins and needles the first few weeks I had my pup and in a way still am. I am blessed because she is fine but I do everything I know to do to compensate for getting her so young. |
Boycott Ebay! |
How sad, those poor babies!:( |

THANK you for the information! Unfortunately that particular one wasn't in KCMO, but I'm definitely going to look there every day and if I see one from KCMO I'm going to report it. Where can I find out which other cities have this law? |

I don't see in this digital world, listing on Ebay classifieds as any different than listing in the classifieds of your local newspaper...and as many newspapers now moved to paperless, online-only subscriptions, it's really the same thing. To me, it's just a form of advertising and I have nothing against it. Many breeders list puppies when they are very young, so people can put deposits on them, even though the actual sale transaction doesn't occur until they are weeks older. |

We have so many unwanted dogs in shelters, many of which are purebreds. Where do you think they come from? Granted, some do come from backgrounds which included all the proper screening and applications but I feel it is safe to say that the amount compared to "other sources" is very low. How do you think all the mixes ended up in the shelter? People letting their dogs wander around unneutered and unspayed, and they probably got those dogs from a classified ad or their buddy down the street, who got it from someone else willy-nilly. If people would stop selling puppies and dogs willy-nilly in a classified ad - we wouldn't have the overpopulated shelters and rescue organizations. Classified ads make it very easy for anyone to just go buy a puppy and then get sick of it later, and dump it in the shelter. OR...breed it knowing nothing of its medical history, genetic make-up, liver health, etc...only to make more puppies to sell to other people via a classified listing. "Purebred puppies, no papers, $300" Miss Nomoney Naomi says "WOOOT there's my puppy!" and continues the escalating problem of overpopulation. If people would use the brains God gave them, they'd stop breeding their dogs simply to share the miracle of birth or because "they wanted puppies". I don't believe it's a simple matter of advertising. Responsible, reputable breeders (in my not so humble opinion) do not advertise their puppies for sale in a classified listing... like they're some sort of dress, t-shirt or a 99 cent special on apples. The reputable breeders at Yorkie talk make it very clear that a puppy is for sale, but they also make it very clear that you're going to have to jump through hoops in order to get said puppy (which is how it should be). To answer your question, no...I'm not 'against' the sale of Yorkies of any age (12+ weeks), what I am against is the willy-nilly selling of said puppies without any requirement of the buyer other than money. Call any one of those ads - I called three of them (not because I wanted one) but because I was concerned. All you need is money - no application to fill out, no questions asked, no vet references and the puppy is yours. :thumbdown Lastly, those 7 week old puppies were available to purchase and take home at 7 weeks, it wasn't a deposit only listing. And I'm not raging at you Kazzy, I'm just answering the question in such a way as to make it clear why I feel the way I do.:) |

My point is, I don't feel ads are the problem, but people. For me, it doesn't matter how I'm lead to my breeder. I think of my dog as it's my family member & always have. I've never bred anything (other than myself..lol ) and hadn't contributed a single pet of any kind to the pet population, ever. I don't believe responsible pet ownership has anything to do with types of advertising. |

That is very concerning and sad :(. My 8 month old little girl I actually found on Ebay Classifieds. My breeder posts on there. But she was NOT 6 weeks old. He posted her at 8 weeks and I got to take her home at 10 weeks. |
