Elevated feeding dish Hi, my Rocky is 16 1/2 years old. I think he might be more comfortable using an elevated feeding dish. Does anyone have a recommendation of a good one to get for a small dog? There's a PetSmart near me so may run over there one day to see what they have. Thanks! |
I don't know of a specific one, but in the meantime until you find the right one - you could always elevate the dish by setting it on books (if he doesn't splash, lol), or upside tupperware or a brick or something....? |
My Presley, who will be 17 next month has started using elevated bowls to eat and drink. He had been stepping in them when we had them on the floor as he has recently lost his vision to cataracts. Don't know about Petsmart, I bought mine at TJ Maxx. Came with the bowls and stand. Very helpful. |
Oh my goodness, bless him!! 16!! Wow, I can only pray Peanut makes it that far. I have seen some at Walmart, Ross, Petsmart, Petco.. you can probably even find a nice one online. I do agree with you, it might be better for him to have something higher. Bless My Presley heart too!! |

I've always used elevated bowls for both of mine. I hear it can cause reflux and indigestion having them on the floor. The only recommendation I would make is to try to get ceramic bowls if you can. I only say that because neither of mine will eat out of stainless. Although..sometimes I think it is the width of the bowls that is the problem...they don't like their ears to touch the bowl. So, I would also recommend as small a bowl as possible to keep his ears from touching. :) |
Elevated feeding bowl Thanks, all! My Rocky is blind, also. Tonight I put his plate on top of an old plastic feeding bowl turned upside down and stayed by him so he wouldn't knock it on the floor. He really gobbled up his food. I've been thinking maybe it hurts his neck to have it down on the floor and also, without his eyesight, makes it harder for him to find. I think I will do it this way until I get to Petsmart later this week. Erika |
Aw sounds like something a little higher would be perfect for him! |
