To rescue or not? I was on Craigslist and saw a 11 mo old yorkie female in Richmond va that is blind and needs a home the ad says he got her from a shelter, cant keep her and doesn't want her take her back to the shelter for fear of putting down when I called he said he found her matted in a box and blind. he thinks she was abused because she flinches and rolls over when approached. but says she more a people person then another dog person. he says he has one yorkie but cant keep her....?? I asked if it was genetic or from an accident of some type .. he replied accident I asked if permant of needs medical attention he replied permanent me and my husband are interested but im afraid if I get her, he might be omitting some medical necessary treatment and I have still have vet bills from of mine. (gidgets attack and passing and little girls hip surgery) I asked if there was a rehoming fee..$80 which I replied it was not to much but that im school shopping right now and its not in the budget but if he needs a home to call me. what do you think? is anyone else out there that can get her? I have no problem bringing her home and caring for her. both me and my husband are on board. I just don't want anymore vet debt =) |
Omg...I wish I was up there, I'd rescue her in a heartbeat. I think she needs to be turned over to a rescue. They will find an approved home for her. She sounds like she will have many special needs and the vet bills could be more than you may anticipate. Praying for this little baby...some people are so sick! Who could abuse an 11 month old blind yorkie puppy? Please let us know what you decide to do! I would seriously look into a yorkie rescue! |
Could you post the link to the Craigslist ad or PM me the contact phone number? |
My heart goes out to you. I know you really just want to give this pup a good home. She's only 11 months, he found her, so no medical history is there for you other than she is blind and possibly abused. There could be other medical problems that come up for her as she gets older too. I see both sides, like you're seeing. It's something you have to decide on. You know that whatever you decide, YT members will be here for you. Link the ad, maybe there will be others interested in her if you decide you can't get her. That would help her too! |

I would love to bring her but im concerned with the mixed information in the ad she was at a shelter..but not fixed on the phone he said he found her and of course im concerned with any unforeseen medical problems... I would love to rescue her, or foster her...im home all the time. my husband works out of town M-F most weeks and both my kids are in school starting august. He said he has another yorkie, but the ad says he is moving and the new place doesn't accept pets. That's strange. Well, all the discrepancies aside, even if this dog was from a reputable rescue, you still wouldn't really "know" the medical behind the dog. Many if not MOST people who surrender their dogs purposely omit, don't mention, or outright lie about the condition of their dogs. When you rescue, it's always a crapshoot. That's why we in rescue are so careful and choosy about who gets our dogs. And then people who get turned down get so upset when they don't get the dog they want right away. There are many many factors to weigh in. That being said, I've fostered an almost fully blind dog Dakota, also blinded from accident (missing one eye from attack, the other partially clouded my cataract) and I think blind dogs are amazing and very loving once you earn their trust. If it were me I'd take the dog asap, and worry later if I was going to keep her or not. |

But yea agree, meet at their house or a public place. I vote to meet at the parking lot of the police station. If they have nothing to hide, they shouldn't have any qualms about that. |
I contacted the owner again today but he has some one coming tomorrow for her |
Oh please I hope that person who is getting her is a decent human being! She's not spayed!! |

The ad is still up. I worry about her too, being unspayed. :( It wouldn\'t be good at all if she fell into a breeder\'s program instead of a loving home that would be sure to spay the little lady. |
