Help me Hi everyone I'm new to YT.com and I'd like to ask you all yorkie owners for advice. I'm almost 15-year-old boy and I'm dying to get a yorkie. We already have a big dog at home but I don't like the fact that he's always outside and from the entire family, I'm probably his least favorite haha. And he doesn't play that much either. I've been asking my mom and dad for one for about 2 years now but the answer is always no, because they say we already have a dog and dogs don't belong in the house. But I want my own dog, a small dog, that could be my best friend for life. I really want one too because I'm going to high school this September and I'm afraid to be bullied again like I've been for the past 9 years. So I want you to tell me how to convince them to get one, because I tried almost everything so far. Thank you! :) |
Hi and WELCOME to YT :)! If your parents don't believe in inside dogs (:(), then I'd suggest waiting to get a yorkie until you have your own place. In the meantime, what about volunteering for a yorkie rescue? Btw, I'll be changing your user title to "YT Young Pup" since you're under age 18 :). |
Hello, Yorkies are strictly inside dogs and really, really like to be with their humans and don't do well being left alone for long hours. Probably would be best to wait until you have your own place before getting one. Many Yorkies have been injured/killed by big dogs so that is always a risk. Good luck to you as you start high school:) |
Yorkies often live 15 years or so. Who would be taking care of this dog when you go off to college, or live in a "no pets allowed" apartment, travel, etc. I loved dogs my whole life but didn't feel responsible & settled enough until I was 49 years old-that's when I got my first dog, a yorkie! Volunteer for a shelter, start a dog walking service, take your dog on walks, & enjoy high school! |
Yorkie pups require a lot of attention and at 15 you'll be in school. I agree with the suggestion to wait |
Hi there & welcome to YT, I agree with what the others have suggested---volunteer at a shelter or vet office(?). These babies do not like to be alone & do need lots of love & attention. What bothers me more than your dog issue is the fact that you have been suffering from bullying. Have you talked with your parents, school counselor, clergy or some other adult in whom you can confide about that? If not, PLEASE do & don't wait until "later". Do it NOW before school starts back so that the problem can hopefully be resolved before this next school year begins. Wishing you all the best! |
Welcome to YT! I'm glad you found us! Many members have offered you great advice. The only thing I can add is to start saving for your yorkie now. Also stay with us and read about yorkies to get ready for your own. When you have a bad day, at school, come visit us. Please take the advice of dalady25 and get some support in place before you start high school. Call the school and ask when you can come in to meet the counselors there. Set up a meeting with them and discuss the problems you've had in the past. I'm hoping they can offer you some solutions so your years in High School are bearable, or even become somewhat pleasant. :) |
