Same mistake different furbaby,,, But trying to correct it early! For those of you who have met up with Gus and I at one of the So cal play dates a few years ago you know my Gus was not very social. I was told by my husband it's because I was too protective with him and made him unsocialible. Well I noticed Leiloni is starting skittish around strangers. I worry about her getting sick (the thought of parvo scares the hell out of me) and will admit I go a bit overboard sometimes. I don't want her to be scared nervous and stressed out around strangers like Gus was. So anyone interested in a play date Leiloni is ready physically ready now we have to get her mentally set. |
I totally understand your concern. My first yorkie, Charlie, was terrified of other dogs and children because of me. I was so worried that he would react badly that I over reacted. As soon as Barney was old enough and fully vaccinated, I took him to meet with friends who have dogs. He loves other dogs. I taught pre-k when I got Barney. After obtaining permission from admin, I explained to my students that Barney was learning just like them and I wanted him to not be afraid of young children. I asked them to sit in a circle and keep their hands in their laps. I told them that if any of them grabbed at him it might make him be afraid of children forever. I then put Barney down and let him walk around. He sniffed and licked almost all of them and they were angels. Of course my aid and I were right there to intervene if needed. I feel that these experiences have helped him. Good luck in finding a play date. I hope it goes well for you and Leiloni. |

Yes, I wish I lived closer. I'd love a playdate. I got my Dolly when she was 5 months & since the day I've gotten her she's been held by thousands of people & played with thousands of dogs. I know many people on this site don't agree with how I've raised her, but she's the friendliest & happiest dog anyone's ever met. I've since adopted 2 adult, kind of mean & unsocialized dogs & within days they began to behave like Dolly & became little sweeties, too. TMI, maybe, but I sure recommend letting people hold her & dogs play with her. Good luck. Maybe you need to take a trip to Vegas & I'll babysit that little doll of yours!! |

YAY!! Monica, please let's get together when you're in town! For sure a playdate but possibly longer babysitting of Leiloni while you're here. I know you're a protective parent but Dolly, Teena & I are really good babysitters; we have friends in Denver who drive 10 hours every time they go on a vacation so we can babysit their princess Sassy. Sorry I didn't see this last night & now today I'll be off the site until mid afternoon. We'll have to PM on this! |
