Food Problems We have been traveling in a RV for the past month and all of a sudden Sophie doesn't like her food. She is on Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier Puppy 29 and has always eaten well. She is 5 months old and around 4 1/2 lbs. any ideas. I tried mixing a small amount of meat baby food in her dry food and she eats a little but not as much as she used to. Any ideas? It's like she no longer likes the taste of the Royal Canin. She pushes it away and tries to bury it with her nose. I worry when she won't eat. |
Sense your traveling I would be worried it would be something else like she could be sick. |
If it is something that just came up, I would try to get her looked at. Since she is still a young one- I think that would be best. You can try to boil a chicken breast and shred it with the dry- if she pushes that away there might be something else going on than her not interested in the food. I know Yorkies can be super picky, but to be safe I would rule out any health issues first. |
These pups can change on a dime. Jess did the same went through a stage where she tried to push anything she could over the bowl or bury it with her nose. She also decided at one point she preferred not to drink water out of a bowl. I think its just puppydom and stretching the boundaries to see what happens. If shes acting fine try a little chicken broth over it (I boil boneless chicken breasts and put the water in ice cube trays. Eventually they return to normal. Now Jess inhales her royal canin, topping or no topping... |
We will be home tomorrow and I will have her checked. She is still her same playful furgirl just decided not to eat. I got some small curd 2% cottage cheese and added to the Royal Canin and she ate that. So maybe she will start eating it again as I put less and less cottage cheese on it. |
Oh good! It is always so stressful when they dont eat! |
I bet she will be fine once you get home it is probably the traveling. I know that I would worry too. The cottage cheese works every time:) my Girls love it!! |
We are home! We were gone for a full month...that length of time was unplanned. My husband had a heart attack while we were on vacation. If anyone ever needs heart care in Sebastian, Fl, I recommend Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. They were wonderful. He had a LAD (left anterior decending) or the widowmaker heart attack. Quick driving, two aspirin and a great stunt team and he is better than ever. Thank God! Back to Sophie....we are home and she is eating without any additives. She is her same happy puppy she has always been. I think it might have been the motion of the RV. She does not get car sick but sometimes the RV is a little bumpy. I know I don't want to eat if my tummy is upset. Thanks to all who gave suggestions. Love this site! |

That should be stent instead of stunt. |
dog I am so sorry to hear about your husband. Now do you drive that motorhome? I don't drive ours and I always worry when we are on the road and my husband , last trip twisted his knee. I don't drive so we would be stuck! My Yorkies will not eat until we get settled in a camp. They do not like the rock and roll of the rig and movement. Yorkies are particular little dogs. They like routine. Out of routine and they don't do so well. I hope your cute one is better and back to her ole cute self. |
I can drive it but I do not like it at all. I am scared the entire time but I do drive short distances just in case it is needed. We waited an extra week and had a followup doctors appointment to be sure he could drive. We did not drive over 300 miles in one day. Took it slow and easy. I did take Sophie to the vet today since she was exposed to several RV parks (who knows what she may have stepped in) and she checked out fine. Took in a stool sample too just in case. Everything is as it should be. As you said she probably didn't like the bumpy ride. She is eating better today. |
