Breeder in N. California? Hello All, I joined yorkie talk because I am very interested in buying a puppy yorkie. I find myself researching info about the breed every day and get great answers from this site. I am looking to buy a healthy baby boy who is AKC registered. My boyfriend has offered to pay for the pup but doesn't want to spend over 500. Are there any breeders who sell their babies for around that price? Im willing to cover the difference, but I know he wants to claim to his coworkers and our family that he bought me the pup for my birthday (not he paid for half) I dont need anything special, like champion blood line or anything like that. Just a adorable little boy who is healthy, small in size, and akc. Thank you very much for any help. :) |
Have you considered adopting a yorkie? |
Yes i would love to adopt a yorkie dog eventually, but im looking for a puppy at this time. All the California yorkie rescues have older dogs from what i have seen, unless im looking on the wrong website. |
A puppy from a reputable breeder can cost any where from $1,000 to $2,000. Puppy mills and back yard breeders are really pretty bad and it can take a little while to find a great breeder but in the end it will be worth it. Getting a pup from a reputable breeder will end up costing you a lot less money in the end in most cases because reputable breeders know the lines of there dogs to know if any illnesses run in them an they do health testing. I would look for a breeder at ytca.org. All good breeders will follow the rules of The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America because that is the mother club and they have done research and put a lot into doing what is best for the breed. Some of the things to look for when looking for a reputable breeder are they will not let the pups go before 12 weeks, the will let you see where the pups are living/ the parents, you can see both parents, they do health testing they have a good health guarantee, they have a spay and neuter contract, they don't use the word teacup or micro, they do not breed female dogs under 5 pounds, they don't have a lot of litters at one time, and they don't breed mixes. |
