oh boyz no more fosters.... what a weekend...i had cedric at the vet on friday ear infection...saturday which was the one week mark for having ripley our foster left with her new parents whom she was absolutely in love with.......now mind you she had be sneezing and a clear discharge from her nose...but she came from west virginia so i assumed it was allergies. she had a bordetella vac on may 22.... so then saturday night i swear i hear the sounds of beginning stages of kennel cough coming on with my three ......yikes. sun morning lil bit of kennel cough sound again from my three as they are waking up.....im thinking oh great...look at dh and he says yes it sounds like the same from when keylo gave it to everyone. well fast forward to sunday and lola is freaking out in pain.. my husband hardly touched her and she screamed in pain....i look at her bum oh no she has an impacted anal gland.....baths all night and vet first am on monday. they got her completely cleaned out and thank god no rupture. and i got anitbiotics for all of them. i stayed with her all day yesterday making sure she was getting better and not licking herself. (i need to make her a cone or get onsies...i forget until this happens and i need one) my poor lola mustve internalized the stress from the foster as she did great all week i was actually really happy thinking she did so well shes really coming around. YIKES. i dont think i will get anymore fosters...i love to give back but i cannot handle all that went down this weekend. i was up all night with her because i was so afraid and she was in pain. we had metacam on hand so i was able to give her that and get most of the impact out with the warm tubes but i dont want my baby to go thru that ever again. shes needed them expressed before but never ever has it been like that and i check her on a normal basis..this just came out of no where. im just glad they are on the mend especially lola. so anyway i just needed to share. thanks for listening. wishing everyone a very happy tuesday. :) |
Wow. Bad week end! Hugs! |
Poor Lola. Praying she recovers quickly. Sorry to hear this was a rough experience. You have to take care of your own pupsters, so don't feel bad that fostering is not for them. Glad to hear your foster likes her new home. |
Oh my goodness! What set of events! I'm so so sorry. Poor Lola! So do they all have KC again? is this proof that the bordatella vac doesn't work? I've had so many tell me it isn't necessary. However, every place requires you get it anyway if you want to board a dog. |
Poor babies, and you! I hope they are all feeling better now. You are such a good mommy! |
thanks everyone lola is much much better and back to her self...mostly. yeah they have kc again and i think getting the vac gives it to them to be honest... ripley had the vac on may 22nd and we got her on july 9th..but she was transported with at least 20 other dogs. i not heard back from the rescue if ripley was actually diagnosed with it..i told them because the adopters already had two dogs and that makes three to take care of so i wanted them to be in the loop and have ripley seen at least..but i dont know for sure. it kicks up keylos ct awful though...so i hope she gets it out of her system sooner than later. were on our first antibiotic dose and im hoping we only need one round this time. guess well see. :) |
Praying it doesn't last as long this time. Shelby has had bordatella vac twice. He never got KC. I think, basically, it doesn't really protect like the "people" say. More than anything, though, I can't see how on earth the vac would protect immediately. I mean, two times I borded Shelby, they gave him the vac before taking him back to the kennels. Seriously? No vaccine that I know of works immediately. Seems to me if a dog had KC and a vac was given to another dog, who was then put right with the KC dog....that one that just got the vac is still gonna get KC. Ya know? ' I'm so frustrated at how "they" make us over vaccinate our animals. (and kids, honestly). *sigh* |
