How often should my 4 month yorkie nap? My girl Lexi has been sleeping so much today. She woke up at 7, and was up til about 9:30, then me and her both went to sleep and woke up at 1, and i let her outside, and she came back in my room again and has been sleeping since. Yesterday was a busy day with a lot of company and no nap times so I'm assuming she is making up for loss of sleep yesterday. Usually she wakes up at 7, goes back to sleep at 9, up again at 12, back to sleep at 3 up til 7 back to sleep til 8 then we go to sleep at 10-10:30. |
Pups at that age tend to sleep a lot its at that time when they do their growing. Plus it is important that they get plenty of rest and several small meals to prevent Hypoglycemia (low sugar). It is normal for them to sleep a lot ! Even my pups at ages 11, 9, 7 and 3 sleep a lot. All dogs also sleep more during the summer months due to the heat. |
Thanks! That's helpful. I had another question and forgot to mention it. I'm living with my mom and she has a 10 year old pomeranian. Lexi has always been eating her food, instead of her own puppy food. I haven't seen or noticed any problems with her eating the pomeranians food, I was just wondering if it is a bad thing or not. |
Normal.:) pup definitely needs lots of time to nap daily. Playing too hard or too long without a substantial amount of food can cause hypo. Naps are good. Adult food will not hurt, but the majority of her diet needs to be puppy food or all life stages. |
It is important that puppy remained on puppy food for a number of months in order to get the extra calcium that they require for healthy bones and teeth. I believe the recommended time is up to a year and than switch them gradually. (80-20, 60-40, 50-50) and so on of new and old foods until you reach 100% new food. There are some issues that a new food can cause. Like GI issues and diarrhea. I would suggest feeding her separate from the other dog in so that she gets the full benefit of the puppy food and if she snacks on a few bit of the adult food throughout the day I don't see much harm in that. But be sure that her main food source is her puppy food. At 4 months old she is still to young to make the switch to adult food. |
Henri was just like that when he was little, he would play hard and then crash for a while:rolleyes: When he woke up the process started all over again!:D You have nothing to worry about, puppies need their sleep:) As for the food question, I think other members have already done a good job at explaining it:) |
