She's Home! Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you know that Lily is home!! She had quite a morning, she gets very car sick and even though I waited to feed her until we got home, she threw up twice in the car :( I expected it, her owners warned me and I can tell that this is anxiety based and not motion sickness based as she began to shake immediately when we got in the vehicle. This is something we'll work on together - if any of you yorkie parents have tips, I'm all ears! Once we got home and cleaned up, she ate a good breakfast. Her former owners ran out of dog food yesterday so instead of transitioning she just went straight on Halo but I fed her in small amounts to see how she'd do. She ate well and hasn't pottied yet despite a long walk but we'll go out again here soon. I expect she's got to get used to things and for some reason it seems little girls can hold it longer than boys? In my experience. We'll keep taking walks until she goes and I'll get her settled with a good walking schedule within a weeks time hopefully. She was very hesitant to approach my DH at first but after just a few hours she was licking his hands and getting pets from both of us. She'll have her cone on (comfy cone) for another week until she gets stitches out and I'll take her to the groomer on the same day as the vet to minimize the car exposure. We'll be working on this in little bits during the week, I'm hoping it will get better but I realize this could take some time. I drive all over during the day and it would be fantastic if she could join me. I work with special needs dogs as well as therapy dogs in training and she would have a lot of new little four-legged friends to play with if she learned to love the car. I hope, I hope!! :xfingers: I thank you all for your kind words of support, I will post some pictures as soon as I take them, hopefully this evening! Just wanted to send quick update and a word of gratitude for all of your love during this process!! :luv: |
Yippee, welcome home Lily...you are going to be so happy once you're all settled in and accustomed to your new surroundings. I am thrilled for all of you, hoping the transition period goes smoothly. I would think taking short trips in the car, to happy places (not the vet or groomer) maybe to a park or friends house will help her get over the fear of riding. Always make it all about her, a new toy a treat and plenty of praise...something for her at the end of each ride. Keeping my fingers crossed, her going with you to visit the therapy or special needs dogs would be great, I'm thinking this will do her a world of good. Keep us posted, can't wait to hear all the stories. |
Lily Pic! 1 Attachment(s) Attachment 388831Here's a picture of our little girl with her cone on. I got her a comfy cone but because the stitches are on her leg she can stick it right in! The next size up in comfy cone was HUGE so she's stuck wearing the plastic one. I have been taking it off of her for walks, eating and when I can sit with her so she's had plenty of time without it. She's a smart little thing though so even though I wanted to go comfy - she out smarted me! If the injury was anywhere else she could not lick it. I'll save the comfy cone hoping that it's one of those "if you have it, you won't need it" kind of things. The regular cone doesn't seem to be stopping her from anything, except licking her stitches!! ;) Cheers to all, happy Sunday!! PS - I need to figure out how to edit pictures so they are the proper angle, sorry for the neck craning on this one!! xo |
