Wondering what my yorkie could be mixed with

Hello,

I'm new to this site. I just got a yorkie, they say he was about 8 months old. He was free and they said they didn't think he was pure bred. He's adorable and sweet, but we're just wondering what he could be mixed with. We don't want to spend the money on the test that they have available in stores, would just like some ideas.

He has the "greasy" yorkie hair, but he's a chocolate brown color.

Hi there. First of all, welcome to YT...nice to meet you. I don't know what he could be mixed with. I gave up guessing lately, but to me..he looks a lot like a chocolate yorkie. Where did you get him from? Was he a rescue?

He's absolutely adorable!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand we're off!!! It looks like he's a mixed breed Yorkie, but I won't hazard a guess as to the other breed(s). I would pay the $70 or so to have his DNA tested.

Hahahaha! love it!

Looks like a chocolate yorkie which is derived from a Yorkie and some gene that maybe Phil can shed some light on?

Oscar is another Chocolate Yorkie that lives here on YT! His mom is Wanda... username WJM, look at some of her adorable pics and I think you will see a difference.

Why does your little guy look so sad? Is he still getting used to you and his new home? I'd love to see another pic in a couple days of the new happy guy!

I gave up guessing also. I looked at some pictures online and just have no clue. I got him from a lady that couldn't keep him any longer. He was free, but it would be interesting to know what he looks like he may be mixed with. :)

Thanks for your reply! He's adorable.. but not worth paying the $70. Just thought it would be neat to have some ideas of what he could be mixed with. :)

Thank you for posting! I'll look into the chocolate yorkie that you mentioned!

That picture was posted by the previous owner. We just got him last night, but I will post some more pictures once he gets better acquainted with our family! He's so friendly! My 2 year old absolutely adores him. He's very good with my son and our kitten.

Definitely a recessive "b" (brown) color gene (brown nose and brown coat). That's the same mutant color gene in Chocolate Yorkies. He could be a Chocolate Yorkie, but the "b" gene in Chocolate Yorkies was originally bred in from some other breed.

That's what I was thinking when looking at pictures online. His ears threw me off.. they're huge! :)

aww, he is so cute..
he does look like a yorkie.
whether he is purebred or not i don't know.
this is my boy Oscar , he is chocolate Yorkie..:)
