Shunt surgery-would appreciate prayers My little Eva needs as many prayers as you can send up to heaven. When Eva was 10 months old and given to me I had blood work done which indicated possible liver issues. After being on liver disease kibble for a month we redid the test and it came out normal. She turned 1 yr. old June 6 and had not been spayed nor had she come in heat. My vet decided to do a bile acid test before spay to double check. It came back moderately high. He sent us to K-State on Monday for an ultra-sound. They found a shunt that went under her diaphragm. K-State vets feel that for this reason she was asymptomatic because when she breathed it would shut off the blood supply. Surgery is this morning. I am starting to panic if I think too hard. Keep telling myself that Eva was first God's creature and if He decides to take her home then I will have to come to grips with that. There are positives such as the internist that I saw has devised a system that so far has eliminated seizures. The surgeon trained for 2 yrs. at the U of Tenn. As we all know that is the best place for liver shunt surgeries. Eva is healthy which is always a plus when going into surgery. Eva has been at K-State since Monday and we all miss her very much. My Biewer Yorkie, Eli, took her under his wings from the moment she walked in our home. He protects her from the cat and from what he perceives as hostile looks from any of my other dogs. Eva barks and Eli is instantly there to check it out. He is so lost. If all goes well she will be home on Sunday. Thank you. ~Joanne~ |
:love:Sending good thoughts your way. |
God bless your little Eva. Prayers being said that the surgery will be a success and for a speedy recovery. Eli sounds so precious. He will be a helpful little caregiver when Eva comes home. |
Sending out lot's of prayes for Eva's surgery. Please keep us updated. |
Praying for Eva and you! I can't say don't be nervous bc I know that does nothing to alleviate your fears, lol. Just try to stay busy... I even found that hard to do. Best of luck though... sounds like you got all the bases covered and the surgeon knows what he's doing! She'll be done before you know it! |
You are going to have a wonderful day on Sunday when you bring her home.....many good thoughts and a prayer coming your way. |
I am praying that you have peace and comfort during her surgery and that all goes well. You will be in my thoughts throughout the day. |

Praying for Eva that the surgery is a success and that she will recover quickly. |
Prayers for young Eva. It sure sounds like your medical team is on top of everything. |
I have Eva and you and my prayers. Will be checking for updates. |
Praying for Eva today. Sounds like she is in great hands if her surgeon trained at UofT. As mentioned above, try to stay busy to help keep your mind from being overcome with it. Hugs! |
I humbly thank you for your prayers. Eva is out of surgery. Things went well enough that they spayed her and pulled a baby tooth. The shunt was a long one. Went around her tummy and under her diaphragm. If I understand right there are still complications that could arise, but at least she made it through the surgery. Thank you. ~Joanne~ |
