Rough week at our house...... I has been a rough week in our household! Max went to the vet on Thursday and he has an anal glad abscess. He is on lots of medicine, but is doing fine. Tatiana went and got her Rabies shot on Saturday. She had benedryl before and had no reaction from the shot. She is up to 2.6 pounds at 6 months of age! Yea!!! :) Yesterday, we had another scare with Tatiana. We were at a family gathering. We were eating on the deck and there are lots of little kids sitting on the floor with their plates. While I was helping others get their plates, she grabbed a bite of hot dog.....it got caught in her throat! My DH saw it and grabbed her and was yelling my name. As I turned to see what he wanted, out came the hot dog. My husband had squeezed her tummy to get the hot dog out! I guess like the Hymlick (sp) the force brought the hot dog up! Thank the Lord! Please everyone, with summer upon us and lots of picnics and hot dogs, please watch your yorkies for the dangers around them! They are all so quick and don't know how dangerous that one little bite can be! |
So glad that all turned out well with the hotdog incident. I truly believe that once the cooking and the eating starts all small dogs should be in a playpen, most especially if there is young children around. |
Very scary, Deb! I'm glad your husband was able to get the hot dog out and that Tatiana is okay. This is a great reminder for everyone to read the YT sticky post on how to perform the Heimlich on a choking dog: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...uture-use.html Two of my nephews are visiting and I know how hard it is to monitor them and the doggies. My Max has already gotten a piece of cereal. I'm glad your Max is doing well with his medications. |
I'm relieved that your little one is OK too! I just wanted to add that little kids can also choke on hot dogs too. |
I really had my hands full at this home. It was not kid friendly or dog friendly! It has a lot of stairs, rails where my yorkies could get under and fall to their death, a river with a fast current, 2 decks, an open spiral staircase, a hot sandy beach, kids running everywhere! I almost went nuts! I carried Tatiana around most of the time, except when I had to fix 4 kids plates for supper. This the one & only time we will be visiting this home......way to many dangers for kids and pets! |

There is a warning label on many hot dog packages about the choking hazards with children. The warning suggests cutting them into small pieces. |
I have carried Remy in a sling type dog carrier when I have been in situation like that. I am traveling this summer..to visit my brother. Last summer I took Remy and it worked out fine, but was still a bit stressful. This summer my dd is staying at our house with her dog and ours.. I will miss her sooooo much but know she will be happier. don't know what I will do next summer. |
Praying that Max heals up on those meds. How scary for Tatiana! Good and quick thinking on your hubby's part. Yay Hubby! Good to know the Hiemlech for sure. |

Oh no Deb you have had a rough week. I am glad that max is doing better with his absess. So glad that Tatiana did good with her rabies vac. I always give mine benedryl about 30 mintues before we leave for a Vac appointment. I learned a long time ago to do that, when my late Lizzie had a reaction. That was so very scary on with the Hot Dog, I am was glad to read that worked out fine. Do you have a Pop Up Travel Kennel you could take with you when you have to go visit people that may not have the best set up for your babies? That may be on some help to you and wouldn't have to worry as much. |
hope your week improves from here wow |
