Stop shopping at pet stores That sell animals, just stop it. I saw the fiscal year reports for a few stores of which I'm working with others to try and get them to stop selling these pups. I can not believe how much money they are taking in and staying open to sell pups because of the people who go in and buy their products. Its quite simple, if you own a pup, if your really against puppy mills, tortured animals, needless breeding at the expense of sick, dying and dead pups, then stop going in these places and shopping. If they don't sell anything they don't stay open. They are not making their income off the pups they are selling they are making it off their jacked up prices on their products and selling pups while doing it, for crying out loud. Its supply and demand, they won't stay open if you quit going in there. There are plenty of other places that you can get this stuff from. Its so not funny to me that so many people have pups and still want to turn a blind eye to the pain and suffering of these puppy mill pups...YOU CAN DO SOMETHING, STOP SHOPPING IN THESE STORES AND STOP PRETENDING YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON. It is not a game to these dogs, while we are all dressing up our pups and spending bucu bucks on them, these pups are suffering....really, is it worth it to pretend you don't know? I'm just sick over this. |
This is so true! We had a PetLand in our town, and eventually... because so many people refused to shop there, it was shut down :) I am happy to say there is not one pet store that sells puppies in my town. You can do it, there are other places to buy your dog's food and supplies. Do not support these places! |
Amen, Lynzy. If people just wouldn't go anywhere near them and did business with the pet stores that don't sell animals, it could make enough of a dent to stop the disgusting practice. I haven't seen one of these kinds of pet stores for years now but if we still had one near, I would sure stay away. They wouldn't get a penny of my money and besides, seeing those poor little dogs is too heartbreaking. |
Another great post by Lynzy!!! |
We were at petsmart today (saturday) and my husband grabbed me and said "why are all these dogs here in crates?" I explained to him that petsmart does rescue adoptions on the weekends. He was ready to drag me outta there immediately until I told him that. Once he knew that, he had to to look at all the rescues, but only after admonishing me that we couldn't have any, he just wanted to look. I had already been there for 30 min while he was at the grocery store, so I had already loved on all the adoption dogs and Huey had already touched noses with them, too. There was only one I wanted, but not in love...just thought he was pitiful... cute little scraggly terrier-type blonde mutt that was scared of everything and growled because he was scared. One look at DH, no chance, so I moved on.:D I don't know of any store in Chattanooga that sells pups, and hope that there aren't any. |
It's called AMAZON for me!! We haven't been in a pet store in years. Lynzy, you continue to impress me with all of the knowledge that you know and find about these puppy mills. It's because of people like you that so many stores have been shut down. Thank you!! |
I initially came to this place just to let out a lot of sadness when my Minnie died, but thank you lynzy and many of the other posters here who educated me about the puppy mills. I had no idea about them before reading this site. |
Its just horrible that people would choose profit over the lives of animals. There is one place I shop for Henri and its called Amazon.com! |
Spot on lynzy!!! I'm lucky that we don't have any pet stores here I our small town that sell puppies. We have one small pet store period and they sell fish and aquarium stuff. I would never buy anything from a store that sold puppies ever. Just think if everyone took a stand they would all be out of business! |

puppies either! :animal36 |
I only shop at stores that have rescue adoptions and I support them with additional donations. I too have been educated through this forum about mills and brokers - I knew about mills but not brokers which is, unfortunately where I got Jack. Good thing though, Jack is healthy aside from his bow legs and minimal luxating patella that I have the vet check every time we go to the vet. I am one of the lucky ones but I have learned a very valuable lesson. Yes, thank you Lynzy for keeping this issue at the forefront! |
I would never shop at stores that sell puppies, we really don't have any around my area anyway, but unfortunately, I know they are still out there. Consider each and every one that closes a victory!!! |
I hadn't been to a pet store that sold puppies in years then last week I had an hour to kill and made the mistake of going into the local Barkworks. Listening to the sales people made me sick. Then I saw the yorkies, shih tzu's and maltese. All I could see was the worn out bodies and terrified dogs we've gotten from the mill. Even 4 days later, with 3 mill moms on the sofa beside me, I can't help crying. And the saddest part is that most people do know but just don't care. |
I have a small little upscale shop by me that has been doing rescues on Saturdays lately. It has been wonderful. I have have gone in there a few times and bought a few things because she is doing the right thing. I love supporting local businesses that are doing good for the community. |
