Pet Stores (I just dont understand) So I was in a pet store yesterday, where they sell puppies. I wanted to play with some. Majority of the puppies were mixed breed better known as mutts. A women in there was playing with a german/husky mix. She was like i want this to her husband and they asked how much and they like 1299. Im thinking you gotta be joking, 1299 for a mutt when they could of went to craigslist and got the same mutt for 100 because for both places you never truly know where they came from and such. I know for certain they had them types puppies on craigslist because I seen the ad. I should of told them to search craiglist. |
Unbelievable! Did they have some exotic name for the mutt? Who would be crazy enough to pay that kind of money for a dog they can find at a shelter or in the classified ads? |
Yes! It was a Gerbiarian shepsky. but they also had Muggings, Puggles, and a few other for way over $1000. |
Also, The women seen upset when the husband told her no because she walked off from him looking mad/upset and just left the store. |
You know those pups come from puppy mills right? |

Do you know, I can't think of a single pet shop that I've been in over the past 10 years in the UK, that I've seen pups for sale? And I've been in many, many of them! :D Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |
I don't go into store that sell dogs. I won't support them. Selling Rescue dogs I will because they are just trying to keep going and is small amount of $$ for the stuff they did to the dog. But $$$$ for a puppy mill mutt. PPL are crazy. I like mixed dogs. I can understand if they have good care and breeding but I'm not paying more $$$ then a Championed dog. PPL want $2500 for a Labradoddle. I thing they are cool but not for that much |
My cousin has a married son with a child 5 years old...they were talking about getting a dog for this hyperactive child they have, giving him something in addition to the sports he is involved in, to diffuse some of that energy this child has! I had suggested to my cousin her son/wife look at a miniature Poodle, which is large enough for a child and non shedding and possibly would not have adverse effects on all the allergies and asthma everyone in that house has! My cousin Linda, started telling her son Joey, "Judy suggested a....." and Joey broke in a said, "let me guess....a Yorkie..." Well that pissed me off just a little and I spoke up immediately and told him "NO! I was not trying to sell you one of my dogs...I dont even sell my dogs to families with young kids. I suggested a poodle that perhaps wouldnt put all of you in the hospital with asthma attacks and allergic reactions!" Long story cut short, they went to a pet store and bought a 1/2 Aussie shepherd/ 1/2 Boston Terrier.......can you even believe this???????? OMG!!!! And now, 3 weeks later, the kid has a severe allergy to DOG DANDER.....so the dog goes.....not back to the pet store, no returns, no refunds.....but to the pound............people are slap dab crazy! I feel sooooooooo bad for the pup they bought....these are clearly fools that have no concept of what a dog actually is....this pup is nothing more than a disposible activity center for that kid.....and if the kid is allergic, well, out goes the activity center, and we try something else............... |

How infuriating! Some people just have no common sense and no reasoning skills!!! "...but they also had Muggings..." What in the world is a Mugging??? besides something that happens on the big city streets? |

Places like that make me sick to my stomach. |
Remember buying anything from those pet stores help keep them in business and buying from puppy mills. |
I stay out of those stores and they never see me or my money. |
I don't understand why anyone would pay so much money for "designer" dogs. They are literally mutts. Nothing against mutts, I have two myself, but if that's what you want, rescue or adopt from a shelter. My neighbor paid $1200 for her Pomeranian/yorkie mix. She was a cute dog but sheesh....$1200. I didn't pay that much for my purebred yorkie. |
Just awful, there are plenty of mix breeds in shelters that need love! Instead of giving money to those awful puppymills and byb, give it to the shelter and adopt a dog there if you want a mix, there are plenty! |

Wow it is crazy what people would spend just for a designer name |
This really saddens me, poor pup. |

These 'designer breeds' have really taken off in the UK and it REALLY angers me as so many idiots believe all the hype that buying a cross will automatically mean a healthy dog with no health problems. Errr no!!!! They are, in 99% of cases, bred by folk who just want to make extra cash  They either use their own pets or use a dog belonging to a friend. I feel sorry for poodle & Chihuahua breeders as they seem to be the main breeds that the backyard breeders mess about with because any puppies from these mixes won't moult so will be perfect for folks with allergies and, in the case of the chi mix, will stay small....won't they! Obviously genetics doesn't come into it LOL And if you speak to one of these gullible idiots in the street they are SO PROUD of their posh new designer breed, aren't they! I usually pop their bubble by saying ''Oooh nice crossbreed/mongrel'' Neil tends to steer me away now as he knows I will say what I think :p The older I get the less cr*p I'll take from idiots....especially when it involves animal welfare  Even one of the monthly dog magazines seemed to buy that 'crossbreed good, pedigree bad' hype and stopped doing breeders adverts and now only does page after page of rescue dogs needing homes. Well, yes, this IS all well and good but I've seen me trawl through page after page of these dogs and NONE are ok with cats!!!! :( I never buy that magazine...just flick through it in the newsagents to look at the ads just in case a suitable dog turned up (it never has!). Even some dog forums are like that too.....buying from a breeder and *shock horror* buying a PEDIGREE puppy  Well, that's tantamount to injecting a lethal dose into another dog because, obviously, a shelter dog is going to be murdered because of my selfishness in wanting a dog that is ok with cats :( This forum is the only one I've actually found who don't accuse you of being evil because you want a pup! I would LOVE to get a rescue Yorkie but I need to find one who is 100% with cats as we cannot have George stressed out as it may spark off his FeLV (he's ok with dogs but constantly being chased by an older dog may stress him out) and Neil....he doesn't want a rescue dog because his friend took one on and had all manner of behavioural issues which took a lot of work to sort out (but even now the dog cannot be left on it's own without barking constantly or trashing the house!). So, for the time being, it looks like a puppy ~ a nice blank canvas ~ is what we will get. Hopefully in the future, once Neil gets addicted to the breed, I can 'sneak in' a rescue dog or two ;) :D |
