Can't bring her to work anymore - how to transition So, Mya is 5 years old and has been lucky enough her whole life to accompany me to either grad school when she was a puppy to being able to come to work with me for the last 3 years. I just got a new job and not only can I not bring her to work with me anymore but we are moving into a new apartment the day before I start work. I am so nervous for her. She is going to be in a new environment and I won't be able to be with her all day to help her get comfortable. She has what I call the opposite of separation anxiety and does perfectly fine when left home alone. I know she can last the workday (looking into dog walkers as well) but I am more concerned with her emotional distress of having this new lifestyle of being a stay-at-home dog. Does anyone have any advice on how to transition a dog in this type of situation? Any help is appreciated!!! |
That is a hard one. One night in a new place and then your gone! Is there any way you can move a few days earlier? |
Unfortunately, no. I mean I am sure she will be fine - I just have total self-induced guilt and was wondering if anyone else had any advice on transitioning...sigh |
I guess the best thing you can do for her is leave your things out where she can see and smell them. That may reassure her some. Of course her favorite things being nearby should help her as well. Maybe leave some soft music or the TV on to something she is familiar with? |
All good ideas. Was planning on leaving the TV on for her. Also, it's all the same furniture etc. So, hopefully the familiarity of everything in the new house will be comforting for her. Thanks! |
