Definitely let her sleep in the bed. I wouldn't worry about rolling over on her. My husband and I sleep in a king sized bed with a 4lb and 5lb yorkie. Get this, Tyson does not move out of my way when I roll over....he growls at me. :D |
Gracie has slept with me since her first night here. I did take precautions though. My mattresses are extra thick so the bed was quite high off the floor. I took the frame off the bed but it was still quite high. I also put one corner of the bed against the wall. When she was a little over 3lbs we got her some pet steps and taught her how to go up and down them to get safely on and off the bed. From what I have seen here many YT people let their dogs sleep with them but there are still those who prefer to crate their dogs at night. It's a personal choice. Whatever is your comfort level and works best for you and your dog. |
Dogs are pack animals and do love to bundle with their pack mates during sleep or at the very least sleep quite near them. I've always let my dogs of all sizes sleep with me and never have rolled onto one yet, including the GSD's and Danes and of course, the Yorkies. My first Yorkie was 3.4 lbs. grown and later, my second Yorkie was a runt weighing in at 3 lbs. when she was grown and Tibbe is right at 6 lbs., so I've had a variety of sizes and none of them allowed me to turn over onto them. They do cuddle up very close at times but I think most dogs move to other parts of the bed during the night and then back close as if you wake up at different times, they are sometimes sleeping on your hip, your neck, touching your back, off to the side of the bed or down at the foot of the bed or anywhere in between. I'd try and you could put a large body pillow next to you so that you couldn't turn over onto her if you wanted. But I think your little Allie will love getting to sleep close to mom and will likely feel more secure sleeping with her pack mate. |
I wish Teasell would still sleep with me. About 2 months ago she decided she is a big doggy and should have her own bed. So she sleeps either in her bed at the end of my bed or she sleeps in my chair...Hopefully before winter she'll decide to sleep with me again |
Sure! I have two Yorki-Apso's. After awhile, they will take over your bed though! Just be careful that they don't jump off as it could harm their little legs. |
our bella has slept with us from day one. 3 years now never one problem. loves to snuggle with my wife, and love to paw me when its pee time ! lol |
Sleep in your bed, you mean her bed. How two dogs weighing no more than 10lbs between them manage to force me into a corner I'll never know. Mine sleep with me |
Micah & Yogi let me sleep with them every night, if they need to go potty i get a little kiss on my cheek |
LOL of course this thread gets bumped the morning after "accidentally" letting Billi sleep with us most of the night!! I've been adament that she sleeps in her pen since she's so tiny (less than 2.5 lbs still) & hasn't been able to get in and out of our bed. Then a few days ago she started using pillows for a ramp... Last night, I opened her pen for her to go potty & sure enough, she wound up in our bed. I've been wondering all morning if I should just let her stay with us nightly & then this pops up?! Thanks YorkieTalk, I guess our bed just got a little warmer :p |
I think it depends on how sensitive you are. I guess I'm one of those few that don't bring the pups to bed. I'm somewhat sensitive to sound/light so my room is like a cave. If I have Magnus/Zoey with me, I know I won't be well rested b/c they will move around in the middle of the night to either change sleeping positions or move to another spot. I do take naps with them in the livingroom sofa... Naps I don't care as much about so it doesn't matter if it was a good/bad nap. LOL |
Bella is 6 1/2 lbs and she sleep with me/us. I wouldn't have it any other way either. Jackson does really well in his crate so that's where he sleeps. |
All three sleep in bed with me. There's occasional movement, but I have a Stair, Night Light and a Doggy Door, so interruptions are few. I specially appreciate their alertness. They as light sleepers, keeping an Ear, Eye and Nose on duty, lets me sleep a LOT better. |
My little Gracie sleeps with the hubby and I, she starts the night by sleeping right next to me but in the morning she has moved towards our feet, I'm guessing to not get smooshed by our tossing and turning :) she is a 5 1/2 lb yorkie. |
Let her sleep with you. Macaroni has slept with me since day one you will never regret it |
My Rayli is 3.5 pounds and i let her sleep with me. Its even to the point where i can not sleep without her. She always has to be by me so she woudlnt even sleep in a crate. i have never rolled over on her so you should be just fine. if anything uu will sleep better and wiggle around less. |
