I realize this issue has been brought up before. I've seen some of the prior threads and haven't noticed anything very recent.

Anyway, I'd like to switch Lucy from Royal Canin Yorkshire to something else. She likes RC but I'd prefer she eat a "healthier" food.

I'm considering DRY FOOD alternatives only.

Have any of you recently used Artemis, Orijen or EVO?

There are so many options, I'd just like to know what people are currently feeding their pups. If there are other brands that you find your babies love, let me know!

I feed Nutrisca, grain free, potato/tapioca free lamb formula. I think it has a 5 or 6 star rating. It does have chick peas as a protein. I started them on it about a month ago. It took Tatiana a few weeks to adjust to it but she is doing great now.

Blue Buffalo Freedom is another great food if you are looking for a grain free version.

Earthborn Holistic is another quality food that I have heard great things. Although, I think the kibble is too large for small dogs.

I'm giving Lola merrick puppy food. When I first got her she was eating natural balance.

She loves the merrick food, I chose it because they haven't had any recalls.
She didn't like the natural balance, she barely ate it and when I mixed the two together she ate around it.

I wouldn't buy evo because of the recalls.

I have a Picky eater here, so we switch between Holistic Health Extension Little Bites and Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul- which is for all ages, but I will probably change to the adult formula when she finished this bag.

I use the Earthborn Holistic Meadow feast and my dogs love it. Daisy is on royal canine SO, but I sometimes give her meadow feast.
Pixie can eat the kibble now problem she scoffs it up and looks at me is that all? lol
The stools are firm and they only poop twice a day. I changed their food after natural balance sold to delmonte.

I'm currently using Orijen, he loves it.. He is very picky. If you email Artemis, they will send you a generous amount of samples( 15-16 bags of 3 oz packets). I will occasionally throw in the Artemis to give him some variety. He also likes the Artemis. Evo just had a recent recall.

I was using royal canin before but he stopped liking it, if your baby is doing good and has no issues with the food, I wouldn't change it.

Thanks everybody. RC is a "good" food but it contains corn gluten meal & beet pulp which I've read can promote allergies.

I'm glad I revisited this topic here though because many of the product reviews are 3 or more years old & I had no idea about the Evo recall!

I think that purchasing 2 types of food & occasionally switching is a good idea too.

Lucy has had smaller stools with RC - but they're stinky. That may happen with any food, I guess. I forget what she was originally fed but I switched her to RC because she is picky. So I'm also glad to hear that there are tastes for the "picky eaters" as well.

What about Fromm? They've never been recalled & a lot of members here have had great experiences with Fromm. They have a grain-free line, if that's what you're looking for. I've fed Acana & Earthborn Holistic with good results. Mine are eating Royal Canin now as well. I've also been thinking about switching them to a "higher quality" food. But they're all doing so well & I have a lot of trust in the company...so I always fall back on it. I've also been through SO MUCH trying to find something that my picky one will actually eat. So I'm kind of scared to make a change.

I agree that rotating between brands of food is good. I also feed Stella & Chewy's, Primal, and Vital Essentials freeze-dried. But RC is probably going to be a staple around here for a long time ;)

I agree about RC, it isn't a great food. Do you have Pulsar in the States?? It is a single meat food and uses lentils instead of potatoes as the carb., therefore is a much lower glycemic food. It comes in Salmon or chicken, I am feeding the frenchies Pulsar and they love it, and I will switch Ace over to it when he gets settled in.

It's hard to get here. I've been looking into Pulsar/Amicus/Legacy. They have it on Amazon & Wayfair. But only the huge 11 lb bags.

I've never heard of this food, is it kinda new? It sounds pretty cool.

It is a great food!! It is made here in Canada, and they have their own plant so it is made and bagged right there, not shipped out. Pulsar is relatively new, Horizon (same company) has been around awhile up here. I have multiple dogs, so I buy the 25lb. bag and it costs $44.00, which is an excellent price too.

We use Horizon Legacy and Amicus in our rotation. We have also used Pulsar but haven't gotten it for quite some time because I feel Legacy and Amicus are better foods. I buy it locally, but I believe petflow.com also sells it. The other brand of food we use in our rotation is Fromm.

I'm not saying Pulsar is a bad food by any means, and it is also very well priced. I still prefer Legacy and Amicus though, even though they cost a bit more.
